in the 80's Marino had huge games back to back to back to back... etc. Trust me i know My Marino Hiistory. He is One of the best Passers ever. Think of it like this. Marino held pretty much every QB record by himself. Now some of them are broken. but not by 1 QB. by 2 or 3. No one has had All the records like marino.

Marino vs. Montana or Elway is something that most will have to just agree to disagree about.

I'll stick with Marino though. Montana was a great winner, but he had one of the greatest offensive minds in history in Bill Walsh as a coach, and was never without a great WR. Give Marino a go to WR like Dwight Clark or Jerry Rice and maybe he pulls some more games out that ended up losses. Maybe he wins a SB then. Elway, as a passer, I always thought was a little overrated, but he was a good runner and pulled a lot of wins out from sure defeat. But even he never won a SB until he had Terrell Davis to run the ball and Rod Smith and Shannon Sharpe in their prime to throw to. Once again, give Marino those weapons, and maybe he wins a little more.

But, looking at current QB's, we may not get to argue any of those for the best for much longer. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning both are on pace to break many of Marino/Favre's records, and each have already won at least 1 Super Bowl. Then we also have some of the young guys like Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, etc. who have Super Bowl wins and, with good health, could put up great stats.

And really, Dan Marino, Steve Young, Joe Montana, Brett Favre, John Elway, and going back a long time ago, Johnny Unitas. Does it really matter which one you're starting a team with? All were/are great and all could win you a lot of games with the right supporting cast.

thats a really good post. IMO you cant compare the new guys with the old. times and the game have changed so much, from Marino's and Montanas time. Theres alot of talent now in the NFL

Because I think QB is the most difficult position to fill and the most important to your team, I'd go with Dan Marino. Forget wins, forget supporting casts, forget the fact the man held every passing record at one point... watch old game film of this guy. He had a strong arm and pinpoint accuracy. Before anyone laments the receivers Joe had in SF, remember Duper and Clayton were as good a pair as any in the league back then (could John Taylor hold a candle to either of them?).

If I started with defense, I'd pick the Minister of Defense, Reggie White. Loved his ability, heart, and attitude. He's one of the guys that changed the game and is the model for the modern NFL defensive end.
