Does this always stay the same or if you play a player out of position for a while does it migrate to the position that he is playing?

This is just a guess but I would think it would stay the same unless you trained him in certain skills that made him better in another position.

Players natural position can change if you play the player on another position for some time. The player needs to play, just training him won't do a thing in the "positioning department"

... I see we forgot to add this to the FAQ, will be up today

I assume then that there is no ill effect or penalty for playing a player outside of his natural position and that it's all just based on their skills/attributes?

It would seem to me that on his Natural position(green spot), there'll be no penalty, on the yellow spotsthere'll be a lil' penalty, but it'll turn faster into his NP, and on the red spots the penalty is a little bit higher.
else it wouldn't really make any sense.

I also think there is a penalty, but not the way you described it.
I think the penalty is due to his skills, not to his position...

Then the natural position - "He can also play adequately-positions"" - "Step in, if really needed-positions" doesn't make much sense to me :s

EDIT:
I'll give an example(from myself in real life )
I play Running Back - by that i mean that i can use all my skills 100%
Then i can play CB, WR/TE and QB quite good, but not as good as when im RB.
And then if needed i can step in as Safety and Outside Linebacker. Last edited on 2008-08-03 at 15:35

Well, what I wanted to say, is the following:
His natural position is calculated using his skills.
There is a certain formula to calculate a value for every position, depending on the weight of every skill. The position with the highest value will be his 'natural position'. The next 3 highest values will be for the adequately positions, and so on.
Now you'll see that if you play him on his natural position, he'll perform the best. If you play him on one of his adequate positions, he'll perform less. This is what I mean with 'penalty'.
He'll get penalized because of his skills, and not because of his position (which is based on the skills).
Do you know what I mean?

PS: This is only my assumption of course

I'm very busy atm so I'll try to explain "short version".
Each position (QB, RB, OL...) has a "rating" associated with it. On player profile screen, the highest rating (so his natural position) is shown. This positional rating can only be changed by playing the matches on the desired position. When the rating you are "building up" is equal or higher than the current highest rating, the player will "switch" his natural position.
Hope that makes sense. It will find its way to the docs too not to worry.

Does this rating depend on the skills?

So we can assume that the natural position is always his best position?
If this is true, why would we ever consider to put him on another position?
