to lower his cap number, he is in the last year of a contract and giving him a new extension would make his cap number smaller. ov is fucking the dolphins entire offseason, hes reportedly looking for 15 million a year which is absolute dogshit. he has not earned robert quinn or jj watt money, simply look at the sacks. OV has one season where he eclipsed 10 sacks, one. whoever pays him 15 million dollars a year is going to realize they fucked up quickly. robert quinn had 19.5 sacks in 2013, and has had over 10 sacks in almost every season of his career. the dolphins need to let him go, yes hes a good player and i wish they could keep him but its just not worth it.

You know what else would lower his cap number? Cutting him.

theyve already expressed that they dont want to cut him, plus id assume cutting him would end in a bit of dead money.

3 round mock draft

1. Bosa/Ramsey/Jack/Hargreaves/Alexander
Bosa, Ramsey, or Jack would be the best picks here, theres essentially no chance that Bosa falls to the Dolphins and there is a chance that Jack is available at 8 he would be the best option. although, its possible none of them are available so Hargreaves or Alexander would be the next best options at corner.

2. Emmanual Ogbah
Because the Dolphins just put the transition tag on OV they can still lose him like they did Charles Clay last season. Ogbah is a great pick at round 2 with a lot of value.

3. Joshua Garnett
best guard for who should be available in round 3.

EDIT- also in the case that bosa does fall to the Dolphins in the first LB deion jones out of LSU would be a great option

Bosa, Ramsey and Jack will definitely be gone by 8 unless the Cowboys have some kind of brain fart and draft a QB, but I don't think they'd be that stupid when the QB class isn't that good compared to previous years. I think you're most likely to get Hargreaves or maybe even a RB with Millar (most likely) leaving in free agency. If you do go RB presumably it would be Elliott from OH State...

$1.4M according to Spotrac. That's pretty easy to swallow.

The dead money is peanuts compared to what they will pay him if they keep him.

A couple of good DEs will be on the transfer market that are younger and of equal pre injury calibre. Why they are keeping him is beyond me.

Lolphin gonna Lolphins I guess.

most likely, hes a pretty big fan favorite as well as grimes, both should be cut but i doubt either will be. people need a reason to come to the gaems.

Depends how free agency goes I think. Maybe they will find someone and part ways. Time will tell.

p.s. I blame Mike Tannenbaum. He messed up the Jets salary cap and did a runner. I think a repeat of the process is happening again.

im not a fan of tannebaum, im sad that they didnt give hickey the chance he deserved. He had a very good draft before they brought in tannenbaum. Hickey understood what the team needs where and addressed them the way they needed to be addressed. He was never given an opportunity to have his own coach come in and take control. They only gave him like two seasons and thats just not enough time especially for general manager.

Dolphins have/will cut Brent Grimes. They've also acquired Kiko Alonso and Byron Maxwell in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. Neither of those guys played well last year, but they're both relatively young.

Both are upgrades for the Dolphins.

Maxwell played well enough. Just his paycheck was for top 5 in position player, where he is a middle of the pack CB. Miami don't have to pay his signing bonuses that Philly did, so he'll get paid $8M which is middle of the pack money. If Maxwell was on $8M in Philly, he'd still be there. It was a overpaid salary offload move by Philly.

Kiko could be a gem if he preforms to his potential. The whole Eagles roster was a mess last season. So it is difficult to really judge these two properly. But while not game changers, an upgrade is better than nothing.

Grimes will now to go now Maxwell is in the locker room.
