I have got no idea what Miami are doing this offseason. There seems no clear goal or direction. Other than offloading contacts. They haven't found anyone for Tannehill to throw to, they haven't fixed the holes on defense. If anything with Laundry and Suh gone, the holes are bigger.

who knows wtf they are doing

They're trying to get rid of all the problematic locker-room players that have questioned and criticized the coach this past year. Unfortunately, it's too late for Gase. He should have done this during the season. It's pretty clear nobody's buying on his coaching style. And without a QB he's toast. Just waiting to get fired.

I am on the coach's side in this one. I think he is doing the right things, and he could be building a good team. I think the problem is the GM, and some of the players.

I would agree with this evaluation, but will the owner? Probably not. Just look at the track record of late. Lot of bad eggs to weed through

Exactly, was kind of my point. His hands in the basket undermines the GM and coach and you get what you have and how can you properly assess accountability? Much harder.

Yeah, probably the owner is also part of the problem.

Ownership is a much overlooked part of success.

Consider the franchises that are consistently successful; Patriots, Steelers, Packers, Broncos, Chiefs, Eagles, etc. All with owners that hire good GM's and coaches and stay out of their way.

Then look at those franchises that consistently struggle or underachieve; Browns, Redskins, Colts, Cowboys, Dolphins, Jets, etc. Owners that meddle or try to play GM themselves.

This could be a result of ownership but owners want to sell tickets. tannenbaum just tossed landry and suh who were by far the largest fan favorites on the team. Theyve cut or traded just about anyone who has amounted to anything in the nfl. I believe the general manager is the issue here. how do you fuck up a team that made it to the playoffs just 2 seasons ago? suhs contract was manageable, and at the very least they should have cut bait next year or the year after instead of just eating up all the dead money. and also what the serious fuck happened with the landry trade? how do the bengals give up a 1st round pick for fucking cordy glenn while the dolphins hand over the best slot receiver in the game for a 4th rounder??? tannenbaum is a fucking joke. this shit is beyond ridiculous and we as the fans need to speak up and say hey what the fuck do you think youre doing.

I dont blame the Dolphins for the Landry trade. Landry is not worth the tag number. I admire Tannenbaum for fleecing somebody even for a 4th rounder for Landry. Various cap experts suggested that the Dolphins should rescind the tag before Landry sings it.

On the Suh situation. Suhs salary was bigger than his play. Cutting him next season would have been the same for the cap as it is now, as HE WAS DEISNATED as a post JUNE 1 cut. So the big part of the dead money will anyway incur in 2019. The problem with Suh is probably his attitude recently (only guessing), and the problem with Tannenbaum was to RESTRUCTURE Suhs contract a year ago. That was a shortsighted move which allowed short term salary cap flexibility for long term costs. But now as Suh is cut that money is purely a loss for the team.

As per the blowing up the roster: The contracts were constructed in a way that the Dolphins paid a lot of money over the last 2 seasons. They moved cap space from earlier and later years (borrowing from 2015 and 2019 and 2020) to make a serious push. It had to be blown up. The only question was when that happens. If the team is together, and is performing, then i guess they would have kept pushing dead cap charges to the future years to extend the window. The hiring of Cutler was also a move that suggested they look at themselves as pushers. Too bad that did not work out and the roster was lucky to make 1 postseason (barely) during the push, and then flame out quickly.

Now, if they did not restructure Suh, did not sign Cutler, then they would be in a much better position. Then they had some reserve money, they had better draft picks right now, so could in theory trade/cut Tannehill (if they wanted) and go with a rookie. Tannehill is not a tragedy, but his cap charge of 17m a year is significantly higher than a rookie, and at this point, both to allow salary cap hell, and to roll the dice on the next prospect, could be more adviseable.

What is next? Roster deconstruction, which will take probably 2-3 seasons. They need Suhs cap charges to be cleared, which will happen next season. In order to make another run with overspending, they need to hoard cap space first.

they need to learn to not overspend and retain good players that we drafted. yes the suh contract was a nightmare, but he delivered in terms of good play at his position. its the same holes in the roster year after year that are neglected.
