But there's a flip side to this coin for contact sport.

You show me a coach that tells his players to go out and make a point of hurting no one and I'll show you a team that'll be 0-16 for sure!

Rule #1 - Play good football
Rule #2 - part of rule #1 is scaring the shit out of people

There is plenty to be said for putting a superstar on an opposing team on a stretcher! Or at least scaring the confidence out of them - it's what contact sport is all about.

There is a difference between a big hit and dirty play. Also nfl is not the only contact game in the world. There are others who get along with less dirty players. Rugby especially is using the tmo to get rid of dirty tackles at this world cup. If you get hit by one of them, even fairly, you would know all about it. Same goes for nfl players. Dirty hits are nearly always a sign of desperation, they are done when a player doesn't like how a game is going and over compensates. I have always seen a few going in as a sign of weakness, that they are panicking and ready to be taken apart.

Suh has probably been targetted a bit but the reason is because it is the Dolphin's thread. I am pretty sure Suh is not the only player Gatr would want out of this league.

Oh yeah, I was talking about between the snap and the whistle AND within the rules.

The way the rules are going though, old grannies 'ill be able to play in the NFL!

I'd say the "Defenceless Receiver" rule is sacrilege - it's an anti Gridiron rule. No more John Stallworth's in the NFL now! You wont need any guts to play the game at all soon. Same with Rugby league too - way too many tarts getting a say.

Yes, I only refer to hits after the plays, when players are down or have stopped the action. These are basically assaults and criminal by any definition. Reference the stomping, the kicking, the pulling off helmets and uppercutting an opponent with the helmet. Regarding the hits during regular play, that is part of the game, although they are trying to make rules to eliminate a lot of that. Legal hard hits are definitely a way to intimidate your opponent and they work

That is the way to do it. Defense was very aggressive. I like seeing Mariota getting waxed on that pick six. Tannehill did his best to lose it. Game would have been a 50 burger if not for Tannehill's interceptions.

Amazing the change in attitude. Just goes to show just how much the players gave up on Philbin.

It was great but it needs to be kept up long term. Step in the right direction though.
