Oops! I did not realised I had knocked down my only seating.

And I set training before I read the hints and tips for new managers. I have changed to normal settings for training.

I cannot wait for play to begin.

I do have a little problem though.... I have four players to retire at the end of the season.... is that now, or next season. I am assuming it is this season, and if so, I need 3 more players.

You don't need 3 more players. Yes those 3 will retire, but you don't need to worry about that really. Focus on building your stadium and making money. Play your players where they fit best, and if you need too, just play them on Offense and Defense. Don't buy any players, it's too early.

If you do go to the transfer market, only get players with 3.5 talent or higher

So I can have a player in both offence and defence? Interesting!

Yeah, you can have them on special teams too.

That said, if you play them in multiple positions, they will only gain BPOS (Best Position Rating) in one. I believe the hierarchy is Offence - > Defence -> Special teams but I can't remember.

But like other users said, don't worry too much about your list and capabilities just yet. This game is definitely more about building a foundation initially and keeping that strong, with a little bit of competitiveness thrown in. You'll also be in a League with mostly bots or inactive teams, so you should be able to steamroll them all with no effort. So take that time to build the abovementioned foundation, to be ready when the real competition kicks in.

By saying that, you only need 11 players?

18 is the allowable minimum.

To elaborate, once you reach only 18 players, you can't fire any more and players retiring won't actually retire (from memory).

Plus, having the bare 11 would be a bad idea as they'd only ever gain BPOS in the offensive positions (due to the experience heirarchy when gaining BPOS I explained above)

You want to get rid of every player that you won't use immediately or down the track. Then fill in the gaps with a combination of the YA and TM. After you are financially set up in approx 2 seasons then that is the time to get properly active on the TM to not only fill holes but upgrade all the weakest links.

Mind you, if you have a little spare cash and see a pretty good player that would be a huge upgrade for your team, then go for it. But stay away from players with wages over $10k (probably even $5k). You want to get your team rolling financially before you get too fancy and by that time you'll know what you're doing.

A mistake I made early after reading the rookie section was focusing on my original players physicals and putting them into positions that matched ignoring BPOS. This put me a half star behind BPOS wise when I finally realised.

Think of your current team as throw aways unless very young and talented and just play them in their best BPOS position and use your youth pulls each week to make a futures team to replace them once fully trained. This will allow you to build a decent team on BPOS now and prepare your young players for the future.

I am relatively new as far as this game goes also so there may be a better way to do it but this has set me up fairly well as far as players go so hopefully it helps you too.
