Main Groups - 07-09.04.2014[b/]

I thought that it would be a good idea to do a little preview of this World Cup edition , the edition with the number 13th.Maybe will be a year of surprises or maybe some old great teams , who have been missing some seasons , with some weakly performances. , will rise again and try to go once again all the way.At the start of the main groups we have :12 teams from europe , 2 from Australia , 1 from South America and 1 from North America.From the missing teams we could mention : World Champions and bronze medalist Serbia , last year World Champions and one time silver medalist Spain , one time silver and one time bronze medalist Netherland , last year bronze medalist Romania , silver medalist France , bronze medalist Austria and also 2 times bronze medalist and one time World Champions Germany.
Also we could salute the first qualification of Sweden to a World Cup.May be the first from a long line.Italy have now 8 qualification in a row at World Cup.Australia have now 6 qualification in a row at World Cup.Slovenia is now with 5 qualification in a row at World cup.Finland also with 5 in a row.
Now let's see what happened in the main groups.

Group A

The death group of this year.All together the teams colected one bronze medal , seven silver medals and two World Champions titles.Australia and USA to face once again this year after the qualification group , where Australia beat the americans twice.Thos two teams where favorite to progress , but sometimes there are surprises.In this group where two big surprisesenmark who finished the group undefeated and Hungary who managed to steal the second place.First day was nothing that much for us.Denmark beat Hungary and USA get theyr revenge on the australians.After the first day we could notice the USA team , and a very convincing performance from them.Theyr QB finished the game with 66% PCT and the defence with 15 tackles , 2 sacks and 1 interception.On the second day , it was time for some presents.Hungary beat Australia by 3 TD's and Denmark wins a monster game against USA.Hungary wins the game against Australia in the defence.With 16 tackles , 2 sacks and 2 pick ups , they got the chance to chanllege USA in the last day for the second place of the group.In the other game was a total show on the offence for the both teams.USA QB , continues his magistral form , ended the game with 8 pass TD and a PCT of 72.9 % , but unfortunatly for a lost.The danish QB , also with a very good performance ended with , 9 pass TD's and 66.7 % PCT , for the second and a qualication in the quarter final for Denmark.The last day came like a thunder over the two favorite nations of this group.Both USA and Australia ended with a lost and both QB's with a PCT under 30%.USA was crushed by Hungary and Australia by Denmark.A realy nightmare for both teams.After a perfect season in the qualification , Australia came and left with 3 defeats.For USA was the same situation , after a first victory in the first day over the aussie , it seems that the game is looking good for another medal.But next year will be better.

Australia 21 - 49 USA
Denmark 42 - 35 Hungary
Hungary 49 - 28 Australia
USA 59 - 66 Denmark
Denmark 35 - 7 Australia
USA 28 - 49 Hungary

1-Denmark 2-Hungary 3-USA 4-Australia

Group B

Another group where it was two teams with bigger chances.Italy and Poland after a first place in the qualication group and New Zeeland and Norway with a tipical underdogs story.But you know that story.Everybody loves a good underdog.First day was the matches between the favorites and the underdogs.Italy managed to beat Poland after a very good game from the both QB's.A final PCT of +65% for both but in the end an extra TD for Italy and a first victory.In the other match , New Zeeland beat Norway with the QB in a good form , for a final PCT of almost 60%.Two identical scores in the second day.Norway wins 56-49 against Poland and Italy beat 56-49 New Zeeland.Both games kind of weak.The game between Norway and Poland was without any sacks or interceptions and with a final PCT under 50% for both QB's.It seems that for Poland will be a weak year.But there where still chances for a qualification.Italy beat New Zeeland in another weak game , in the are of 50% for the QB's and 1 interceptions for Italy and one for New Zeeland.A victory for Italy who already was thinking at the quarter final.And then the final day came.A magistral game from Norway , and the victory puts the scandinavian team on the second place and the mediteranean team on the third place.What a surprise! I always said that Italy has a great team , but a curse or something is over them.Last year where the pricipal favorites and got beaten in the final.Two season ago , they've got eliminated in the semis by the future World Champions and the list may continue.In the other game of the group , New Zeeland got the qualifition and it is party in the golden age.Those words "Oldies but goldies" strike again and the "old" players from New Zeeland are in the quarter Finals.

New Zeeland 42 - 21 Norway
Poland 56 - 63 Italy
Norway 56 - 49 Poland
Italy 56 - 49 New Zeeland
New Zeeland 49 - 21 Poland
Italy 38 - 59 Norway

1-New Zeeland 2-Norway 3-Italy 4-Poland

Group C

A relative balanced group , with the World Champions from two seasons ago , Switzerland , and with a bronze medallist , Argentina , as the favorites of the group.But we will see that for Argentina , the 12.00 o'clock was a pretty early our.First day , both favorites of the group got beaten and kind of hard both of them.SLovakia managed to crush Switzerland with a decent offence but with 3 interceptions in the defence got the first victory of the group.Argentina goes bot against Belgium and it was a pretty easy win for the europeans.On the second day , Slovakia got theyr destiny in theyr hands and beat Belgium for a qualification in the Quarter finals.A good defence for them with 21 tackles , 2 sacks and 1 pick up.Belgium remains a little behind , but remains with chances for qualification.Switzerland crushed Argentina in the other game of the group.Another BOT game for the south americans.To bad , cause theyr team it is realy good.Decisive game for the second place of the group between Switzerland and Belgium.Maybe a little to much running game for Belgium , who got beaten , pretty hard.19 tackles and 2 sacks for the swiss defence , and they are again at the World Cup play-offs.Last time when they where here , they went all the way.In the last game of the group , Argentina goes BOT once again , and Slovakia got the 3rd win and the first place of the group.

Switzerland 35 - 56 Slovakia
Belgium 56 - 17 Argentina
Slovakia 41 - 14 Belgium
Argetina 17 - 87 Switzerland
Switzerland 48 - 28 Belgium
Argentina 24 - 70 Slovakia

1-Slovakia 2-Switzerland 3-Belgium 4-Argentina

Group D

Here we have the biggest nation in the Grin Iron world.United Kingdom with 5 titles of World Champions and 1 bronze medal.Maybe it is the time to even that World Champions titles.Finland is looking for the medal lost last year , when first Spain and then Romania got in theyr way.Slovenia , thanks to Paulo , has returned at the World Cup and all that is extra from here is gold.Sweden is the youngest team from this year.They've got theyr debut at World Cup.We wish them good luck.First day was without any surprises , unlike the other groups , here UK beat Sweden and Finland beat Slovenia.Maybe the emotions was to big for the underdogs in this case.Good performance for Sweden but , United kingdom was simply to good in that game.In the other game , was a matter of who got first in the end zone.Good PCT for the slovenian QB and decent defence , but Finland has only one tought in mind.To go throught.Second day came with a little surprise or so , when Finland managed to win over the United Kingdom.Great PCT for the Finland QB who ended with 60.5% . Also the defence was not to bad , 13 tackles and 2 interceptions for a nice win.Sweden also got theyr first official win at the World Cup , after the win against Slovenia . It was a win by only a FG but a win is a win , no matter how.Not any particulary arise performance for any players or teams.The last day came , and it was time for the big boys to step up.Finland with a bit of luck against Sweden after a very weak game by theyr QB , who ended with almost 38% PCT but a nice total yards number. For Sweden it is the end of this season , but all in one , it was a very good season.United Kingdom also got theyr spot in the play-off after the win against Slovenia.Slovenia after a very good season , when they beat twice Netherland and one time Romania , but lost against Turkey once , ended the season with 3 defeats at the World Cup.The season is a winning season for them.

Botted line ups are truly the biggest joke in GI. Can you imagine any scenario in real life that would lead to this??? Let's say you have the worst possible situation in real life, your coach doesn't show up, none of the assistants show up, but your team finds its way to the stadium in time for the game anyway. Now the players are so confused they just draw straws for positions? Wouldn't they have some idea how to line up?? Nope, my QB throws his hand up to play FB, "pick me, pick me, pick me!" and they did!! They really need to just let you trot players out there that at least play in the position that is attached to their "primary" selection. I'm sure the random draw there would still be a pretty good drop off from the starting team, as there would be random rookies or guys you are training for other positions, but still listed at the position they are picked to play.
