Defensive Blocking?

Does "Blocking" apply to defenders - does it help them shed blocks? Is this stat just as important to defenders as it is to the offence?

It is said that blocking is defending the QB or making holes for the RB... In that respect it does make sense...

So then this stat is as useless for defenders as the "passing" stat would be?

There is no need for defenders to have any blocking skills.

You typically have 3 receivers - a defence has typically 4DBs and possibly 4LBs as well. 8 vs 3.

IRL a team with 3 receivers would also have running back/s who catch out of the backfield. 3-4 defences would have 4 LBs and 4 DBs but 4-3 defences have the extra DL and lose an LB. There would never be an occasion of 8 vs 3.
