I think a player should be able to max out skills. This is a simulation game and in real life you have players who max out at their positions. You look at players who played at a much higher level such as Tom Brady, Jerry Rice, Barry Sanders, and Lawerence Taylor for example. They all played at a higher level than other players during their careers. It is very realistic for some players to reach full potential and some not to.

Say what you like - there are better ways to keep things interesting and varied other than having someone train a skill for months only to realise it is doing nothing.

Needing to work out the devs code and read their minds should not be required to play a game.

Yes, but the talent idea is a bit crude - players are not equally good or bad at all things.

Ideally, all of a players attributes should have a hidden cap. If the cap is high and a player is a long way from his cap, then he could improve quickly in that area, more slowly if his cap is lower or if he is closer to it.

But we're talking about something a lot different now.

But this also happens in real life as well. Kids coming out of college, Ryan Leaf and JaMarcus Russell are two good examples, drafted number one overall. Teams thought they would develop in to beasts and they did nothing but get a lot of money for no production. It is good we don't know what they will cap at because if we did the game would be a lot less interesting.
