Does the catching stat increase chances of intercepts for defenders?

There is no evidence to this. It stinks, I know, but just as many defenders with catching skill of 1 to 6 make interceptions as my guys with 7 or higher. To me it's a waste of time to train catching for defenders for the current game engine

Also remember that as per the admins, all players use between 3-5 skills, not including physicals. Okay, so knowing this you have tackling for sure on defenders. That leaves 2-4 additional skills. If you assume agility and vision for most defenders, then that leaves you with 0-2 additional skills. I will further suggest positioning matters on defense. so now you're at 4 skills out of a potential 3-5 that matter. I would suggest catching is not important, but tactics might account for the INT's

I remember the admins stating about the 3-5 skills per position, but I'm not sure I completely buy it. Some positions seem to only use 2 skills (not counting speed/strength). I have yet to see a skill besides blocking and footwork that helps OL. And DL only seem to need tackling and agility. Nothing else I've trained for these positions have seemed to help at all. If more skills are involved, they must be at such a reduced rate that there's not much difference between having the skill or not. Just my opinion though. Any evidence to the contrary is appreciated.

Well I think that they do operate at some reduced rate. There is no doubt the primary skill is overweighted in this game. Also, I think defenders use 4-5 skills, while most of the offensive players use 3 and therefore the defense takes much longer to catch up to established offenses. Just my opinion, but with that said, there is little chance that catching matters at all to defensive players

I think a lot of these games are the same for the same reasons. They fail to tell you what each stat does exactly and who for. The reason is that the physics are so crude that if they declared this stuff then you probably wouldn't waste your time playing.

To have as many stats in this game as the player has and for so many of them to be worthless, this software is just a waste of everyone's time.

Stupid!

If they did tell everyone exactly what each stat does and who for then there would be no training decisions to be made for managers. Everyone would train in exactly the same way. It may not be perfect but I like the fact that you have to use your initiative.

Now I know I have just started my second season but I also like the fact we do not know what makes a player do well.

It allows for individualism, theory and frustration to be part of the game. And in any game you need all three.

Exactly the point. If everything was declared, then within a few seasons, all the cookie cutter teams would be identical and the game would be insanely boring. It's much better the way it is and there is plenty of randomness that allows for upsets to occur, just as it does in the real world

Yeah, it's just so good to train a stat for months when the fact is it's not doing a single thing. And there's no way to know either.

Why don't we just label all the stats like -

A,B.C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J. It would be so much fun trying to work out what they all do, if anything.

So much fun!
