does gi recognize scatbacks?

nope

to clarify....

it seems that all HB's are dealt with the same way, and all FB's are dealt with the same way...

An offensive back who is an especially fast and elusive ball carrier.

hmm i guess you mean skills for players at HB are evaluated by the engine during gameplay in the same way.
(and ditto for fb)

Thats a give
except

But then I thot there could a manager out there who is obsessed with scatbacks has developed a scatback and has results to show they are useful/ exist

yep.... it seems that the engine in effect goes "how good is this player in x skill " NOT "this player has high x skill so will be used in y way"

I'm gonna need some more clarification on this. Or point me to the thread that discusses it. What is the difference between how FB & HB are evaluated by the engine?

Scat back often catches the ball out of the backfield too...

how should I build a powerback?

So - based on the answers, there is really only two skillsets for running back that matter to the GI engine:

Runner: (which you should build as described in this thread since Speed doesn't seem to matter), and

Fullback/blocking back: which would add Blocking/Tackling skills to the skills discussed above.

Put another way, all running backs are Powerbacks, since Strength is the key physical skill? Since I've built a Div V running team, this is very helpful. It also explains why Speed players are sometimes cheap.

Is that correct? Thanks!

some people will keep telling you speed is pointless (Iman likes to say that) but don't discount it too much....

The simple question to ask is that
Does player with high speed perform better than an equally skilled player (in all other categories)?
the answer to that question is pretty conclusively no

a player with high strength almost always produces more than a player with high speed, on both sides of the ball

speed doesnt win you games
tackling, catching, passing have been repeatedly and conclusively been shown to alter games
positioning and intel could be thrown in there too but not as conclusive

evidence please? becasue im quite happy saying that if you have 2 IDENTICAL RB's with only speed being different, if one has 20 speed and one has 10, the 20 will perform better...
