Maybe it might be worth having a re think on that maybe?

Is it because he is not over 30? Or is it something else with him?

Rethink which bit, out of interest? Sims? He's a long way of NT standard, if agree. Very much a OSW.

NT players from strong countries have to be 19 or 20 basically in all the necessary skills for their position and fitness beasts to break the starting line ups. There are just too many good players out there for a one skill wonder to crack the starting line up or even make the team, really. I suppose some 18 skilled players are in the mix too, but they better be evenly trained and great fitness. Just an FYI for those that think they may have a NT ready player for any of the top countries

I don't have the means to scout Sims, but for a Uknt linebacker, you'd be looking for a truly exceptional player. 5 star positional rating, high intelligence, consistency, speed and strength, and then he'd need to be trained to the high teens in tactical skills, tackling, agility, footwork, and stamina. For sure you could compromise on maybe two of these traits, but any worse and he'd probably not be in the running.

That's not to say he could never make it though.

Ok so the talent star rating is one of the most important things to start with for a national team player is that right Ab Cat?

The you can train the other areas that you stated?Last edited on 2016-01-26 at 19:40

Age is irrelevant; players for the NT will get there due to skill, not being 30+. No coach who ends up with the UKNT job will call up Sims, for now.

His speed/strength are in the right area for NT standard, but other than his tackling he is lacking in every skill required for a LB, but as he's only 26 he has a bit of time to up those that are a bit too low.

BPOS plays a part in player build but it isn't the be all and end all. If two players have the same exact skills then it's a no brainer to take the guy with higher BPOS, but that rarely happens. You have to figure out a trade off between skill levels and BPOS and decide who is the better player.

I played 4.5* BPOS players in NT games as I felt they were better than the other players overall. I've seen Spain field a side of all 5* BPOS players and lose to a team with only a handful of 5* players. This is also GI where luck is probably an equivalently large factor, if not more so.

Another part that I think abcat is alluding to is that the LBs that the UK has to choose from are of a very high calibre and only the elite make the cut; there are probably plenty of players who are great in their own right, just not quite as good as some of the other options

Pretty much this for any of the deep WC teams. The players that were sitting on the bench for team USA are certainly stars for each of their respective teams, but there are so many good players, only the elite generally are starters
