Hi guys,

When i look at my gamestats afterwards i see often that a some of my best players make much less tackles than players who are a lot lower in stats. How is that possible? Is that all about the position the're playing ore the openets strategy, ore something else?

A few games back i accidentally had a player in my line up for kicker/punten with 1 skill punting/kicking and he only kicked 2 yards less on average than my 10/10 kicker/punter?

Thanks in advance!

It could be that your opponent directed his plays to the side that your weaker players were playing on? Only tackles made against the run are credited, unless there's a sack, pressure or interception. Special teams tackles are also recorded, except when fumbles occur.

On top of what lion said, I'd add that a kick/punter is not worth investing in, for the exact reason you ask - they just dont kick that much longer with high skills.. Thats why I have an 8/8 K/P, but 10/10 is probably fine too, just no point in going higher than that.. Even high skill kickers will miss 40+ anyway, so just stick with low skill kickers and stay within 40 yard kicks, then youll be fine, my players very rarely miss within that range..

I don't know if I can agree with the kicker/punter thing. My starting kicker/punter averages over 10 more yards per kick than my replacement. I feel like this helps a lot with kickoffs and punts by making your opponent have to go further down the field. The longer the field, the more times it could take your opponent to score. If you are just starting off though I can understand wanting to save money.

I'll see your 10 yards and raise you with a broad selection of plays that lead to TD's when two tackles are broken.

Field position after punts / kickoff means squat in this engine. Only thing that matters is the QB/WR relationship and how good your DE's are.

Maybe it's just me, but I seemed to notice a pretty big drop off on long TD passes once I reached D.II. They still happen, but mostly it seems to be a series of 10-15 yd plays down the field that result in scores.

Perhaps so..., but I would still not use more that 40k a week on ST's and my Kicker is not going past 10 in kicking / punting. Last year, my kicker attempted 5 kicks and made 3. His wage was 10k a week summing to 200.000 for 9 points...

Now, I know we are talking about field position, and yes... in VI that does not matter as much as the tackling abilities of your defense and the strength of your offense.

SrednaD, I do agree with what you are saying totally. For me I had the extra cash so I decided to pay the man, even if he won't be kicking the long field goals. I actually didn't plan to keep my current kicker so long, but the backup is still not ready to take his place yet!

Now that we got the Kicker / punter thingy done, let me answer the first part of your question:

First, the engine does not record passes defended and who makes tackles on pass plays. So any 'value for money' for great DB's is not seen. Tacklers are only recorded for run plays, sacks and special teams (KR/PR), so any player not in position to make plays on rushing plays (typically your CB's, FS and players not on the side where your opponent is running) will get very few stats.

If you want to see if your pass coverage is good enough, you need to look at how many times the opponent har thrown in a direction and deduct the number of catches.

If you look at this game (as example, hope it's ok Kandelas Bulls):

http://grid-iron.org/index.php?page=match&match_id=830361

You will be able to see that Kandelas threw the ball 15 times at WR Pedro Abayeta and he made 8 catches and 7 incompletes. (Now, with the StaticsDisplay GreaseMonkey script it's pretty easy to see, but I think it has been removed from userscripts.org).

From that info, you can assume that my LOLB (Johan Birch), LCB (Ghislain Pol) and FS (Theo Johannsen) deflected 7 passes and made 8 tackles. Sadly, that is as deep the stats go, so I will never know if it is my 3½ BPOS LB, 4 BPOS CB or 4½ BPOS FS that played great in that game.

And this is based on an undocumented assumption that my MLB's don't cover WR's... And playing with two MLB's, I don't even know who's who in the lineup...

But play your best players... every important game.

Well, what's with the "missed tackles"?
I guess, if a player misses a tackle, then he must be one og the guys who could have stopped the receaiver...
Am I right so far?
If this assumption is true, than MLBs do cover WRs, since they get missed tackles on them...?!
