Well, what's with the "missed tackles"?
I guess, if a player misses a tackle, then he must be one og the guys who could have stopped the receaiver...
Am I right so far?
If this assumption is true, than MLBs do cover WRs, since they get missed tackles on them...?!

Yeah... seen that too, so yes, MLB's do cover WR's.

But frankly, I think the engine just picks a player not being a DE... Just pick a side, then defender in first line (LB/CB). If he misses, pick next line (CB/S if first line was LB, S if first line was CB) and check for tackle.

Could make this engine in LISP or even Basic on my C64.

There situations where LBO and LBM do both miss the tackle, too.

But dispite of this, everything you said might be true

Bot defences...

Ok, then... bad programming. Leave out an 'if-statement' and I am still right.

It may or may not be the case in the game, but, in the real world... depending on the defense being run MLBs do sometimes cover a wide receiver.

I'll give the example I am familiar with, the 4-4 defense using zone coverage. Normally, my middle linebackers scrape off if it is a run play or blitz. If it is a pass and no stunts or blitz is called, the two MLBs have the short inside zones, the OLBs have the flats on a pass(or play action away from their side), CB's and SF have the deep thirds. If a TE or WR go and run a short drag or crossing route, my MLBs should pick him up for coverage.

Now mixing up the real world and GI world is a big mistake. Oranges and apples.
