You'll need to tell us a few things:-

1. What are we choosing?
2. Details about said players?

All we know is that both players are 16, and the need to be picked for something...

Just looking at your team, the first thing you need to do is relax the training regime so they can regain their energy levels. Energy is vital to the team's performance.

As for players, neither kicker nor gunner is a particularly important role. If either of the two have good talent, I would retrain them in offensive of defensive positions, (ie wide receiver, linebacker), by playing them in those positions until their rating goes up.

The problem with this is that when you start division 4 next season, you're team will still have low energy and it takes forever to get it back up again. The only quick way to raise energy level is to rest players, but then you are essentially throwing away all the training you've done to date.

When you train on maximum, it gives the player six extra training points each week. This six points is further divided among the skills in the training area that the player is training in. It takes 100 training points to raise the skill 1 point. So you are losing up to 10 pts of energy each week and gaining at most about 3 pts towards a focused trained skill. It will take about 34 weeks of training for the extra training to gain a skill point in the focus trained skill. However, once the players energy drops to a certain level, the players will automatically rest and will get NO training points. Even without coaches and facilities, the players lose 10 to 23 training points (depending on teamwork and random pts assignment 10+- 2) each week that they don't train.
While I can understand your thinking, the truth is that the mechanics of the game make this a useless endeavor which hurts you more than helps in the long run.

You're actually lucky... You will get promotion into a league with minimum 3 BOT teams so you can avoid that your energy level will get you relegated in season 12. If you where getting promotion into a better league (like any IV league in AS&E), you would actually have to change your game planning so you would not get promotion this season since you otherwise would risk relegation in season 12 in IV and then have to wait another season (or two) to get to IV.

It is very, very, very important to think long term. This game does not give big chances for teams trying to take a short cut.

Stick to the advice in the rookie forum (and "Spilling the Beans" when I get it updated).
