hi

i just started my team.
i would like to know what to do with the old players.
i've got a 32 yo player who's gonna retire next season.
Is it worth putting him on the team for a season ? Because then i'm gonna have to put another guy on his spot next season.
I mean by the time his bpos rating is at a decent level he's gonna retire so shouldn't i just put in a younger player who's less skilled but will play a little longer ? and what to do with 30 yo's and 31 yo's
they might last a few seasons but is it worth having them on the team or should i just fire all the old players ?

welcome sir

yeah get rid of your old players
have you read the guide at the top? (read this before..etc)

i'd prob recommend clearing out everyone over the age of about 26 from your team
pick up cheap young players form the market. (don't go wild)
or pick up older 26-29ish vets going cheap. hopefully they'll already have reasonable bpos so you can get a few seasons use out of them as needed

If you're going into the transfer market, make sure you check the wages of the player before you bid on them - otherwise you could get a nasty shock come Economy Update day on a Wednesday (I did when I bid on a kicker a couple of seasons ago and didn't notice until I'd put the bid in that his wages were nearly 70kpw - I had to off-load him quickly afterwards)

I started out in a different situation (playing mostly bots), and I kept most of my older players on my team. As I found replacements via youth pulls, I gradually fired the older guys and replaced them with younger ones. However, my performance didn't suffer much at all (if any). If I had it to do over, I'd hit the transfer market earlier and expedite the process of swapping out old guys for new ones. DG_31's comment about salary is important, however, and there is really no need to get high priced talent right from the beginning.

as long as you have young players in QB, WR, LB and SF which have the talent to last a long time then the rest can be swapped as you find the players for those positions. a RB with main stats of about 8 will do u well for your first couple of seasons.

I kept an old running back, figuring that I wouldn't need him after a few seasons since the game is so pass focused. Of course, things might be a-changin' next season.

i'd fire anyone 25 or older after you have found replacements.

okay i just fired all the players who were 30 or older (about 8 players)
I've found replacements for all but now i'm gonna wait and save some money. It was just not possible to get decent replacements for all the players who were 27 or older.so i just kept all the 29,28,27 yo olds i'm just gonna work my way down when i get some extra money.

thanks for the advice guys
catch ya later

Sounds like you are off to a good start. There are definitely deals out there on the transfer market if you are patient and check it frequently, and youth pulls will come through for you every now and then. You'll be able to get rid of the rest of your old players soon enough.

I have always judged players regardless of age - so whatever formula / criterion you judge players on and they can improve your team then use them with the proviso that they will lose fitness points when they are 31. Plus there's a bonus for old players in this game - they are cheap.
