sorry if this should have gone in the discussion thread and further apologies for bringing up a subject that has been raised before but ....

Recently I have put in a bid for a player only to see another bid jump the price up drastically (up 33%) and realised the guy is bidding on his own player
this is the first time its happened to me so I'm asking

a) why is this allowed? (can't be bothered trying to find a thread i never read!)

more importantly (b) what is the community's thinking on what i should do next as I like the look of the guy but want to pay a fair price not one thats been inflated by the seller

are you trying to make a monkey outta me???

Personally I hate that this is possible. I would much rather have a system where this wasn't possible and that a manager could a remove a player from the transfer market (in case of a mistake) at a limit of 6-12 hours after listing the player.

When the bidding trick happens to me, then I ignore the player and let the manager buy his own player and loose him loose listing fee, GI tax fee and get the players TC reset to 1.

the only legitimate reason for bidding on his own player is f he has decided he shouldnt sell him so is trying to get him back(he will just lose the tax and 2.5k) but bumping the price just to make more money is morally wrong so i think it should be removed entirely from the game to avoid any dodgy goings on

will give the benefit of the doubt on legitimacy (in public!!) as he may just be trying to price everyone else out of the bidding due to a mistake

i will (probably) follow the advice and ignore the rest of the auction

this does need correcting though

I have been in the situation where i put the wrong player on the market, and if anyone bid on them i outbid and sent them a message stating why and if it was ok i take him back. they were fine with it. This is what he should do IMO if he wants it back.

I think that's a good move in the instance where a mistake has happened and you just pay the price of returning his tc to 1 and a small fee for listing him. It's definitely a loophole though where some managers may try to inflate the price of their players for sale. It could all be fixed by giving every manager one hour to "unlist" a player they have just listed. Once an hour passes, he's locked on the transfer list and the manager can't bid on his own players. If they "unlist" the player, the tc goes to 1 anyway and they have to pay the fees anyway. Then they can relist the player if they like

It could also be fixed that once a manager bids on his own player, the player is sold to the manager and is taken off the transfer list or listed as sold until the transfer time ends. A possible added side effect of this is that if IP addresses are used to determine this, then it would be easier to spot managers with multiple accounts who are breaking the rules by transferring players between teams.

I can see and agree with both sides of the arguement about bidding on your own players.
It's wrong to bid on your players in hopes of getting other owners to bid higher. The option is already there to set the initial bid price to whatever you want. If you want more money for the player, set a higher start price.
At the same time, I understand a manager changing his mind on a player and wanting him back. This could be due to an unexpected injury to a starter, or just new knowledge of the game that changes the opinion on the value of the player. I know that I've sold players and wished I had them back after learning something new about the game. Too bad they were already sold and their new owners haven't put them on the market again.
