Personally I don't rate them high. I limit my gunners to skill 9 to keep their salaries down.

a good gunner helps keep retn yardage to a minimum but in gi since field posn does not seem all that important, he is a 3rd string player whom you pay for the just in case scenarios
A good Gunner should be able to shoot the wings off of a fly in flight at 100 paces.
Seriously though, a gunner is important in that you have to start 2 each match. Who you start is not going to decide whether or not you win or lose. All the special teams players can be handled this way in my opinion. I use special teams positions to help my players gain team chemistry. The most important special teams position is punter, and even that one isn't too important when any play can go for a touchdown from anywhere on the field because of 2 or 3 missed tackles.

I think the most important special team player is the kicker, both punter and kicker, but another position I find important is the returner. Not for the yards, nice as they may be, but to prevent fumbles.

A fumble can be recovered by the punting team and they will stay in possesion.
Even if this event is rare - i dont want to happen to my team.
