I know how to create my offensive and defensive formations. But how do I know (set) when the formation will be used? For some reason every time I make a change the play resets to set 1=>. Is the defensive formation always with the offesive formation? I am having troubles creating my game plan. I'm not sure if I am creating a game plan.

Welcome to the game!

Couple tips first. (1) Try to get a friendly every week in a stadium in the 9000-12000 seat range (more money for both sides) & (2) make sure you pick a sponsor and get gameday sponsors for every game.

As for setting a lineup/gameplanning. You aren't really creating a gameplan at this point. You are setting an offensive lineup, a defensive lineup, some special teams players, and offensive/defensive settings based on what down it is. Do all of that on the 3 tabs at the top of the Orders screen and then press Submit.

When you hit "save orders", it saves the orders. The list shown in the "Save match orders" is sorted alphabetically
1 defensive formation , 1 offensive formation and a set of formation orders together form a MAtch order.
You can check if an order is saved properly by using load orders.
And well use the Submit button to submit orders for a game.
Does any of that answer your question?

Good catch, I didn't even realize he was hitting Save instead of Submit.

The Save orders is for Supporters. That will allow you to have multiple saved formations and make it easier for you to submit match orders. I have saved formations for Bots, for Friendly matches, and for Human matches. I used to have saved formations for 3-4 D, 4-4 D, & 4-3 D as well as saved for offensive lineups too.

So from what you are telling me I only have 1 offensive formation and 1 defensive formation at a time in a game.

Yes, that is correct. 1 offensive lineup, 1 defensive lineup, and 1 match order set. The game engine itself is pretty simplistic.
