Other games have step-by-step do this, then do that lists...at that point, you're not playing a game...you're just a trained monkey.

I cant say that I agree with you about the trained monkey part but I do see your point. It's more structured and less of an unknown factor. I think anyone would agree that it depends on the gamer. Some people use cheat codes, some people use them to get past difficult areas, others will never use them. But again it depends on the gamer.

I personally would like to believe that my WR with higher speed than your CB is an advantage. Hopefully he'll outrun your CB, that is if your DL will stop pressuring my QB.

It is not a case of giving people a specific guide in how to train their players, but more about letting them make choices on a basis of something. Right now people have nothing to choose from, unless they read through many pages of breakthrough posts.

A simple guide of what the actually skills actually mean. Then it is up to the individual manager to choose how he or she want to train the team from the basic descriptions of the different skills.

@ speed, wr, cb
I distinctly remember admuns saying speed was an important skill for a WR.....
which alongwith the other lines dropped by admins when people scream "help me" kinda makes me agree with the Caped duck about what he reiterates every now and then.....most skills required by players are pretty intutitive.

The problem is instead of using the skills you know a certain position requires(most ppl in NA, others that have played) or u look for in a position(rl p/t coaches etc), people drop into the forums looking for a walkthrough. And all that the pages of opinion-filled rookie threads do is to make it more difficult to pick the right skills especially since a set of skills can substitute for others. (For eg Dodos with great arms can perform well at a certain lower level)

I love the fact that every other skill thread eventually moves to this discussion

Curiosity Questions... (No offense intended)
Do you guys like having the core game mechanics shrouded in mystery? Would it be better if we knew exactly what caused our teams to tick? Or is it a better game when the players (us) draw their own conclusions about what works and what doesnt?

Yeah I like having some things unknown, but if it's something very odd like vision not being an important skill for RBs, I would really like to know things like that.

right now with this basic game engine, having unknowns is pretty easy to figure out

most of the top tier teams have essentially figured out what works well and what doesnt

if the game engine were to be more complex then we definitely need more direction

so in conclusion, we dont too much direction right now but if it gets complicated we will

also, i really want to see evidence to show that speed does something.

a fast WR or TE doesnt perform better than an equally skilled (in every other area) wr or te

I concur physicals should have more importance placed on them, but especially speed. There needs to be a calculated quotient involving speed and agility of defender and attacker to determine if the tackle attempt is even possible. If that makes sense...
