When I think of a fullback what come to mind is a tough, strong, crazy, player that mainly blocks for the running back. The prototype fullback would bust open holes for the running back, stays back and pass blocks for the quarterback and sometimes bangs it up the middle on short yardage play to get the first down but hardly ever runs the ball. I have used the fullback just for this but in certain formations I hear the fullback will play accordingly. I have only used the I-Formation with the fullback and running back in the center and the fullback did not carry the ball or was thrown at as I suspected. So if you find a player with excellent skills in blocking, strength, speed, vision, footwork, agility, stamina (which for me speed would be something useful and not important for my fullback) With this added does the fullback have a effect on how well your running back does in the game? I seem to have had some moderate success using this formula. I am new and only have played a handful of games so if some vets of the game would throw in there 2 cents it would be appreciated....thanks....Doc

I am pretty certain the FB helps alot on pass plays. Whenever i play 3WR and have a RB instead of a FB i get sacked maybe 2-3 times a game. But put the FB in, maybe coincidence but i don't get sacked.
And i reckon he helps on run plays too. If you want to, have a bit of a play around with different formations? one with the FB in and one without? See how your yardage is affected and so on?

First off the way the chosen carrier of the ball is the following:
Run Left:
HB(L) > FB(L) > HB(C) > FB(C) > HB(R) > FB(R)
Run Right:
HB(R) > FB(R) > HB(C) > FB(C) > HB(L) > FB(L)
Run Center:
HB(C) > FB(C) > HB(L) or HB(R) > FB(L) or FB(R)
From my experience the FB does improve the running of a HB, but I don't run against other humans anymore, as it requires a serious good offensive line and running backs. And the chance of big plays are not as great as on pass plays. In my passing formation I always use a FB over a HB.
Regarding skills:
Blocking - good skill used both in running and passing.
Strength - another good universal skill.
Speed - Not a major skill.
Vision - According to the Admin not a running back skill.
Footwork - Gives the player stability, so useful.
Agility - Universal useful skill, but not the first skill to be trained.
Stamina - Everybody but the special teams can use this.

Okay, that was some much needed info. thanks Jesp and Strat...........I plan on building toward the passing game as I bring more talented players to my team. I understand this will take time so I will be patient and soak up all the info I can in the meanwhile. That pretty much covers the fullback position for me, thx....
