Apologies as these will invariably have been asked somewhere before, but after just a couple of games still slightly off the pace and not sifted through all the many many threads, but anyway:

Do you ever get defences scoring from interceptions on this game? Just wondering if there's any value at looking at catch/carry stats for some defenders as secondary/tertiary skills. Also, for breaking up a passing play what skills would be important - speed to keep up I guess, then positioning/vision? - there's no 'getting in the way' skill so assuming some combination of the others are used.

I've seen stuff abou preferred position vs relevant skills, as my team is new and largely rubbish, do we know how much weighting a correct BPOS will give to performance? Is it comparable to 2-3 points in key stats to someone who's not BPOS for that position?

There was other stuff, but I've largely forgotten now I've come to typing it up

As I'm a bit of an NFL tactical rookie on the whole (despite liking watching it) - what formation would normally be played against a running offence. The other day I coughed up a lot of yards, and having had what I thought my better tacklers as LB I found my SS making a huge number of tackles. I'd thought LBs were most likely to be first up on runners - am I mistaken or were my linebackers just a bit rubbish and requirng help?!

my evil twin has turned up!
firstly welcome to the party

im not sure about defensive TDs but some catching on LBs, CBs and SFs is generally seen as a good secondary skill to have. tackling appears to be the main defensive skill, high speed also is useful across these positions and strength on SS and LB, also make sure 1 of your MLBs has intelligence 18+!

get players playing in positions that suit their skills and get working on that BPOS as it is basically an extra skill specific to the position, the higher talent the player the higher his BPOS can go, it will take time for most to change but they will eventually(honest)

team set up is down to what players you have at each position, if you have 4 good linemen and 3 good LBs play 4-3 if other way round play 3-4, always play 2 CBs, personally i like a SS and a FS but lots of teams play 2 of 1 and none of the others and other teams play 4-4 defence with 1 SF, as i said it all depends what you like the look of. try experimenting in friendlies and see what suits you best

anyway hope this helps and any more questions just ask good luck!

Agree with monkey, just a few things to add.

Interceptions can occur, and the longest return I've seen has been a 24 yarder. They can't go for TD's, but they can grab good field position, and are useful.

Your safeties get lots of tackles because your Linemen and LB's missed them. Get up tackling for your entire D.

Different formations work for different teams. Personally, I use a 5-2. Not very common, but it works for me.

He's right about BPOS. Shift them to the correct positions, and they'll gradually get better at that position.

Friendlies don't have a big affect on anything, so expirement with them and use them to shift players around, find good formations, and get TC up.

Old players probably won't shift positions too quickly, so it's best to get younger players and use friendlies to get them ready for important games.

And browse the forums for information, DO NOT look in the thread made by kingdom come, and ask questions, we've got a great community always willing to help.

Thanks for the fast replies, will certainly be useful. I had been thinking blocking was key for OL and tackling for DL, but looking round it seems they're secondary to strength.

Actually, tackling is primary for DL. However, OL you may want to train strength first because fitness skills don't raise wages. The reason runs get to your safeties is your D-Linemen and LB's missing tackles.

I would keep the primary skills (tackling, blocking, etc), secondary to physical skills (speed, strength, stamina) at this point, only to keep your wages down. Once you have some strong physical sets and you have built your stadium to support higher primary skills, get to work on them, as they are most certainly the force that will drive your talent higher
