Im am sure this has been asked and answered before but:

I'd like to know RB formation variations and how they are used.

2RB R/L Do they only run to their side of the field? Do they Split Carries?

1RB Center 1RB R/L Who gets the work load?

Also, do you lose effectiveness if you set a RB as a FB and put him in the offset I?

thanks guys.

2RB R/L Do they only run to their side of the field? Do they Split Carries? All this depends on the area you want to attack so it could be all left or all right or split carries depending on the area you plan to attack

1RB Center 1RB R/L Who gets the work load? im think they split the carries also depending on the area you want to attack

Also, do you lose effectiveness if you set a RB as a FB and put him in the offset I? this i think is another one of them things that depends on the area you attack if you run with the FB i would think you would do better than if you run away from the FB might i add that i dont know a LOT about the engine as the labrats do

All of this is just from what i know of REAL football not GI football

I have been giving some thought as to whether I should carry on with 2 HB's. In GI, does anyone think there is any benefit to having 2 HB's on the field at the same time? Presumably it keeps them both fresher throughout the game and means 2 RB's are gaining experience so the running game will not be destroyed if there is an injury.

I have been thinking that if I dropped one of my RB's to the bench I could add a TE perhaps which would add a blocker/passing option. Does anyone think having 2 HB's means one of the players is effectively redundant on each play?

If I recall correctly, GI RB's attack their side of the field. ie. RB/R runs to the right side of the field, RB/L runs to the left side of the field, RB/C runs up the middle. Any spot left over is taken up by the RB closest to the spot, or split if it's equal. Example, if you have RB/C and RB/L, then the RB/C will take all carries up the middle and to the right. If you have RB/L and RB/R, then runs up the middle will be split (somewhat evenly, but not always) between the two RB's.
Now, RB's overrun FB's. If you have a RB lined up in the same position as a FB, the FB will get NO carries. If they are split (FB/C and RB/R) I think that FB will get the runs up the middle and RB gets all others. I'm not positive on this aspect, but my experience has shown that if you have a FB and a RB, the FB's carries are very limited or non-existant.

As to whether or not to have two RB's? I use two RB's currently. I've noticed that some games 1 RB does well, while the other will stink it up. Other games it's the opposite. Still some games, both do extremely well and a very few games, both have stunk. With two RB's I almost always have at least 1 RB doing well and providing a strong running game. It's probably my RB's low consistency that is causing the variation. If you have a high consistency RB, a 1 RB setup might work well.

Basically it works like this...

Running Left-
Use first to be present:
HB(L), FB(L), HB(C), FB(C), HB(R), FB(R)

Running Right-
Use first to be present:
HB(R), FB(R), HB(C), FB(C), HB(L), FB(L)

Running Centre-
Use first to be present:
HB(C), FB(C), HB(L) OR* HB(R), FB(L) OR* FB(R)

*randomly determine for each play if both present

Thanks guys - I wasn't actually expecting such helpful responses That'll teach me for underestimating the great GI community.

However, having realised that my QB can't throw or my WR's catch I think I'll stick with 2 RBs for the moment as my game has to be run heavy for a while longer. I will definitely give some thought to having only 1 when passing and catching get some training attention though.

good choice..
at first, the running game is much easier to get going. there's a lot of factors that go into a successfull passing attack. you'll get there with some training. but for now, i think a good running attack is the best way to go for your team

Agree, especially in division V. You'll be playing a lot of teams that are bots or newly human owned without a real good defense. So the running game should work great for you next season. This is when you try to get the pieces in place for the passing game, so that hopefully as you move up it'll get better and better.
