I'm not sure if this is appropriate but since I'm new to this game and new to the whole sport (american football) I'm looking for a seasoned player who can teach and advice me a little.

I'd love to learn more about the game and the sport and think this is a great way to do it.

Anyone willing to share some of their wisdom with me?

You are invited to ask your question right here, since this is the rookie area. Several managers will answer if possible. You will have faster success by asking public than using a dedicated mentor.

However: welcome to the game, have fun!

First 2 pieces of advice I'd give is to build as much as can(start with VIP, then exec, then regular) and make sure to pick a sponsor. Sponsors can be found on your club page in the economy section(under the picture on the left hand side). Also make sure to pick gameday sponsors every week.

Don't worry if you get beat by human teams early on, even if they're bad losses. It will take your team some time to get built up, but I wouldn't hit the transfer market real hard early on.

I see that you have a friendly at a large stadium next week already, good work there. You should be looking to do that every week if you can, especially early on.

Welcome to the game, we hope you enjoy both this and American Football on the whole! We have a great community who are usually more than willing to help out, so like others said, if you have questions just post away.

Thank you all for the nice welcome. This is indeed an outstanding community. I have already a full message-inbox with lots of welcomes and helping hands. Thanks for that! I'll try to answer all of them soon (time's a little short right now)

I always wanted to learn more about Football and to support that interest, I decided to join this game. I play/played hattrick.org before, but I don't like regular Football (Soccer), lol.

My first question has appeared.

Is there any disadvantage in letting one (or more) guys play in offense and defense? It's just because I think my def. is a bit weak and the best players are the best players in off. too.

And since I'm new to the sport itself too is this (see below) range of players good to start with? I'm not sure how many of each position is good

Offense (running): QB,HB,HB,FB,C,G,G,T,T,TE,TE
Offense (passing): QB,HB,FB,C,G,G,T,T,TE,WR,WR
Defense : DT,DT,DE,DE,CB,CB,MLB,OLB,OLB,SS,FS
Special : one of each

(BTW: is it unwise to post my question in this 'general' thread?)

Yep, there is a disadvantage

Each position has their own rating, and it grows if the guy plays on that position. If you put him on two positions he will only gain rating for one of them.

You lose Rating
