Can a friendly match actually make your players worse?

I'd like to play some friendlies against some better teams (with larger stadiums of course) but is there a hidden 'cost' in regards to how your players react and respond?

No. They don't get hurt or anything. Just can get better.

Or maybe run away from your team and you will never see them again
