bench warmer hehe just kidding..
i think he'd make a good WR. of course to make this decision you gotta take the 3 untrainable skills into consideration.

this and talent

the 4 most important things to look at when evaluating a player is in this order

Talent, Consistency/Intel (consit and intel are interchangeable depending on position. QB and Safeties will need high intel and also high consist but like HB or Dline will need consist but intel for them isnt necessarily needed)
and lastly Teamwork. will definitely help but TW isnt necessary

What is involved in changing a players position?

I have a player who, by the numbers, would make a great WR but the 'coaches' say otherwise (i.e. he could play TE, OL, blah, blah).

If I start him as WR will he fail miserably?

thanks!

To change a player's position, they simply have to play that position, over and over and over and over again. Your WR would perform subpar for a while until his BPOS changed to WR. Ultimately, if the skills(numbers) say he'd be a good WR, play him there.
