Formation for Running Game

I dunno much about football strategy but I could imagine that if the opposing team is running a 4-3 front, I would want to go with 2 TE sets to create more gaps than they have downlinemen to cover. And maybe run up the middel with a FB against 5-2 front. Against single safety defences Id want to sweep (in the match orders) and against two safeties Id prefer the inside runs.

Is this a proper way to choose the formation for running offence in GI? My players' key skills are so low and very close to each other that the opposing front might be a bigger factor than the skills. And Im not going to throw the ball with this line. Where's the checkbox for the option offence?

By the way if I am not interested in throwing the ball, should I still use a WR or two to spread the D? What again were the CBs doing in running plays if theyr tackles are not in the stats?

Sorry for spamming but I would like to add my guess on what happens when the engine is simulating a running game.

The QB decides an area where the run is about to hit. If he has high intelligence, he would choose a play that had success in the previous downs. He can choose an inside run, the offtackle run or the sweep.

If the play is sweep, the playside CB must contain the run with his positioning, tackling and perhaps vision and some mobility skills. If the CB makes a good job, the alley support (OLB/SF) will have better running lane and better odds to make the tackle depending on his skills.

The ball carrier must use different skills againts these two defenders. Maybe speed and vision to get outside the contain, and carrying, strength and agility to avoid the tackler.

I don't think the CB gets involved in outside running plays...at least the (missed) tackling statistics don't indicate it.

I think the CBs only job is the passing game and the DL LB and Safetys are the ones the cover the run cause on LONG plays its the DL then the LB and lastly the Safety that are listed as missed tackles or so thats what i have seen happen a lot the past 3 season when i ran 80% of the time
