It depends.

a) on the players you have
b) on the team that your facing.

Other than that I'm also still looking for my "perfect" defense so let's hear what the cracks have to say about that...

For sure a good defense needs high tackling, depending on position good speed and/or strength, stamina, positioning and vision.

One element is good tackling. Right now, many/most TDs seemed to be scored on long plays with several missed tackles (as oppose to prolonged drives). If you can avoid missed tackles, your scoring defense will improve dramatically.

Good ratings and high tackling

thats pretty much it
DB dont need all that much Speed. Linebackers dont need all that much strength
DLine however does need lots of strength.

So speed really isnt that important for DBs????

I thought they needed speed to keep up with speedy receivers and to catch up to the ball carrier...
