Could someone please tell me what a gunner is & what they do on a football field? I have never heard of a Gunner.
Cheers John

A gunner is the counterpart of a kick returner, so tackling and speed is important IMO

In real life they are the crazy MFers that race down the field as fast as possible, trying to avoid the opposing team except for 1 guy - the guy with the ball - whom they are to collide with as fast and as hard as possible. This position, above all others (IMO) requires the most blatant disregard for personal well-being of all the positions on the field.

They have a kind of killer instinct, don't they?

BTW to complete the picture, CB's in ST are those who blocks gunners for KR. They usually run jointly in front of the KR.

Or the guys split out wide on the punt team. Usually, you will see 2 CB for each Gunner trying to slow them up enough to spring the Punt Returner.

Killer or just nuts. Come to think of it, probably both.
