Getting deeper into the game and although a longtime Football Fan, from time to time there are still some open questions...

This time: What situation exactly the CornerBack Special Teams comes into play?

First i thought this are the guys for wedging holes for the Kick/Punt-returner - but since everybody suggest tackling vor the CB Special Teams, seems i am wrong.

Thanks for help,
AG

In this game they bump (block) the opposing team's gunners who are trying to tackle your kick returner.
Calling them cornerbacks is a quirk of this game but the positional rules still apply, ie they can gain experience and rating for cornerback when playing in the special team that will help them when they play pass defense. Didn't make sense when it was introduced but got used to it now!
Some teams play their strongest blockers and others use it to improve new CBs for pass defense - your choice.

Thanks for the info! I'm still a bit puzzled over this position tho :/ As I understand it the best skill set for this position would be speed, blocking, and what perhaps positioning? Since the gunners are doing the tackling a normal CB wouldn't have the same skill set right? While it helps establish the BPOS for a CB what else do they have in common? It seems that a CB would be better suited as a Gunner and a LB would be better suited for use as a ST CB the way you're stating.Last edited on 2009-04-28 at 10:33

Thanks for this overall - it goes the way i thought too.

The point is: a regular Pass-Def CB needs mostly Tackling - a Special Team CB Blocking - so the builds defer in a major attribute, this is something, i need to take care off.

To be honest what you do with this doesn't seem to have a major impact (unless it's gonna be a close game against a human when every little edge will help) so I would suggest testing on your part to see what suits you and your team best.
CBs - many managers value the tactical skills more than tackling. I try to combine both with speed, agility and intelligence.
If I have CB who can block then he can double on ST or I just pick someone else who can block.
Gunners - I like these guys to have similar skills to linebackers.

Most of the time I use ST to bump up chemistry for new players except kick returner where I always play the best RB type skillset players with speed preferably 15+. This seems to get the most return yardage for me.
