But Commissioner Roger Goodell dismissed the talks, saying the NFL isn’t considering a Super Bowl in London.

“We have never looked at London or Mexico City as a site,” Goodell said.

It'll NEVER happen. Can you imagine the uproar from the Americans if we stole their SuperBowl, and to be honest I don't blame them.
I hate uk football personally but can you imagine if they moved the FA Cup Final to New York because a handful of Americans had started to watch uk footie?
NFL might be gaining a little more popularity over here recently, and had a hardcore following for nearly 30 years anyway, but we're a handful in comparison to it's US following.

Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing it once. You can only find out so much about the interest level of Europe from a regular season game. If they got the Super Bowl and for some reason it didn't sell out, then we'd know that it may be a waste in trying to get international fans into the game. However, if it sold out and was a great game, it could go a long way in raising the popularity internationally.

That said, it won't happen. Unless the NFL expands into Europe so much that London gets an expansion team.

Yeah...I saw that. Personally, unless the NFL expands to Europe, I really think they own it to their fans and to the cities that host franchises to play in the states.

I kind of wondering what time they'd play the game. The Super Bowl typically starts around 3:00 pm PST, which is like midnight/1:00 am in London.

I do not believe that this will happen, but the discussion about is popping up again and again...

But they could play a pro bowl in Europe - they know there are a lot of AF fans in Europe.

I think that a Pro Bowl would be possible, not a super bowl, it would be the same as wanting to play the UEFA champions league finals somewhere out of europe... just doesn't make sense

It's going to be a long time before any substantial amount of AF is played over here regularly. It's nice having a single game over here every year, don't get me wrong, but that is just to keep the european fans placated, especially with the demise of NFL Germany.

A London Franchise much as it has been talked about with some gusto is just going to be a logistical nightmare.

1. American players having to adopt a non-north american city as home for the majority of the year (suggestion of Toronto were met with severe distain and it's a hell of a lot closer)

2. Opponents having to regularly plan for interrupted weeks making the journey here and back, as well as always having to allow for the time difference when scheduling matches, especially flex scheduling.

3. Having already experimented with NFL players playing in europe, granted as part of a developement league, the owners all decided against it's continuance.

In my humble opinion if the NFL were serious about placing a team in europe they shoudl maybe re-hash NFL europa so that it is more of a developement league than it was. Maybe not using players allocated by actual NFL teams but players who do not have a team. This has already been talked about in the US anyway, setting up a second level to the NFL, where players without a team can put themselves in the shop window, and are only allowed to play 2 years max so it doesn't end up a dumping ground for older players past their prime, or guys who couldn't play football but also can't do anything else.

If a London Franchise was to be introduced then I would do my best to support it, as well as watch with interest how they progress but there is one other thing to remember here.

The international series at the moment is very well supported because you have people who love to watch any two american teams go at it, and most american teams have solid fan bases around europe. A london team would not necessarily have a strong fan base around Europe.

I completely agree. A London franchise would probably never work. The only way I could see that is if 4 American teams were cut and an all-Europe division were created. And even then, having 8 teams travel over there would be a nightmare. But if that idea were to happen, it would be best in football and not hockey like the NHL seems to want.
