I think it's much better to play with NT instead of one of the ends. NT is crucial for stopping the run. And you can play SS on the side without defensive end.

I think you're taking a hell of a risk playing with a NT and no end on one side of line.

All it takes is for a human opponent to instruct their QB for mostly run plays to the weak side of the line, and if nothing else they should (although this is not real life) get positive yardage each play. Eventually they will score and your defence has been on the field a long time.

I realise this is all hypothetical, but my own personal opinion (not worth much but I'm not known for keeping it to myself) is that if you're going to have NT on your line then it should be as part of 3-4 with 2 ends, a 4-3 or 4-4 where you move one of your DT in, or a 5-3 where you have the Dline beefed up beyond belief.

If you have a super good safety then it may be a risk worth taking but I would be wary of it to be honest.

I played half of season 2 with the 4-4 defense, and in the 2nd half i changd it to the 3-4 with a NT and 2 DE

from what i saw the 3-4 works out a lot better because the LB's make a lot more pressure on the line and consequently the inside runs, since i've made the change my defense has played a lot better ( in my last 11 games, only 10 points were scored on me, and that includes playing 6 human teams )

I play with a 5-2, and it has worked well for me.

Start out with a 4-4-3 defense if you want.

----------------ss----------

cb-----rolb--mlb--mlb-----lolb----cb

---------rde--dt--dt---lde-------

here you will have a good run defense without making your pass defense weak and vulnerable.

Tried this against my human opponents and it worked really well.

I think if you have the right personnel, you can make almost any system work (though the systems lacking CB's and safeties would be very suspect against the pass).

I run a 3-3-5 and it does pretty well against the run.

it only takes a miss by 1 DL, 1 LB, and 1 CB for a guy to break it all the way.

Is what goes into broken tackles? High strength for the RB?

How do you avoid missed tackles? Tackling and Strength?

I read the details of this match and I just don't get it. Why did my offensive lineman play as DT or LB. And esspecially why did they play defense all togheter now.
