Yeah...exactly. The gunner is on the coverage team. The ST CB tries to block him (at least for a punt return -- probably kick return to). And the kick returner returns the punts and kicks.

And what's the reason that this player only gets 0.5 star rating when he plays as gunner?

Positioning 5 Tackling 8 Punting 1
Vision 3 Blocking 5 Speed 10
Intelligence 6 Passing 3 Strength 10
Footwork 3 Catching 1 Agility 4

With the low skill levels that most STs are at right now, they're probably not hurting you too much one way or the other.
