Hi community.

I was reading all the stuff over and over again, and to me it seems there is kind of interest in getting the situation solved. So here is a proposal to the community. I truly hope admins let the thread alive.

Right now, the userbase is a little bit less than 600 people. About 85 are paying regular supporter accounts. I did not count the gift supporters one receives when login in at the beginning of the manager career. And another 85 people own lifetime supporters.

Let's asume for a moment, 50% of the supporters are willing to support a crowdfunding. Let's asume 25% of the life time supporters are willing to support a crowdfunding. And let's imaging YOU are one of the guys willing to pay:

Are you ready to put around 185 EUR one time into the crowdfunding?

(Math: 42 supporters + 22 lifetime supporters = 64, 10k EUR need: 156 EUR per crowdfunder, added VAT of 19%, German based enterprise -> 185 EUR)

It is a simple question, and there is only a yes or a no to it. So ... what is your opinion?

If this could work, I am willing to takeover GI as it is and run it. I am as well ready to improve the stuff. But since there is no business case out of GI with the numbers from the top of the post, I am not ready to invest, at least not the whole 10k. There is just no room to justify such an investment, and therefore I would like to limit myself to the investment of my time to run and improve stuff. I made no deep thoughts about ownership, it is just a wild idea I would like to toss in here.

If one doubts my intention or experience with such games: I am Pete, formerly known in this game as pstimpel, ex-global mod. And I am doing such stuff as a hobbyist ...

I won't read PM about it, and I guess my account will go bot soon. Feel free to comment below if you could imagine to put some money into the future of this game or not.

If admin feel OK with it, I could provide a mail address for more communication ...

Cheers,
Pete

I thought about it, but with 185€ I can do other things. Sorry.

It is a great initiative and opportunity. Just not for me.

I think that the game needs a sole (or small group) of owners in order to mainstream the tasks of fixing and developing the game.

OK, so thank you for the answers.

Seems, there is no real interest from the community to save GIs future by using kind of a kickstarter approach. It was worth a try, but somehow this result was kind of expected. No bad feelings ...

Best wishes to Melderon for finding one or another way to deal with this games future.

Cheers

64 needed, I would be willing ($202.66 US or a weeks groceries), but then you need 63 more

I'd also pay a share but given the size of the player base finding another 62 people willing to pay that much is going to be a struggle.

Why should only supporters pay? I am not supporter because nothing changes in this game( for a long time) and game doesnt evolve ( And now I see why). So maybe if we had some kind of solid promise that the game will be improved, then maybe some of us, who are not supporters, would support the game.

Also, maybe someone has ability to pay more then this, if given the opportunity to participate in some kind of building new platform of the game, or to be involved in decisions about game as a kind of member of the management board.

All in all I can pay 185 euros to help, but also I think it is better if a smaller group of people run the game. I know it is harder to find people that are ready to pay more, but you should try that also and give them chance to earn that money back if they run a game properly by support the game later if they make this game great again.

10k seems a bit steep, eh? 85 Supporter x 20€/Year = 1700€/Year minus Server costs minus inflation minus the work needed. It will probably take like 10 years to get the money back and that's assuming constant user base, which is questionable at the current state.

Remember costs for developer(s) unless you can do it yourself and ad in income from ads.

Server costs depend on your setup. Normally, you would need two servers (frontend and database) so that could be up to 500€ to 750€ depending on your style and whether the code can be run on services (SaaS) or you need to go deeper and have to utilize your own servers (IaaS).

My maths would show that you need to surpass 150 paying supporters to get a good return on your investment and afford to have reliable release-, development- and operational management processes running.

Also, as your auditor I would argue that you should always compare your investment with what else you can get for an equal (risky) investment. Plus rate of inflation. My view is that you need to look at a 15-20% return of investment unless you write off passion to the game as an 'income'.

Saving pandas from extinction does give a moral income, but does not pay the bills.

Investing in Bitcoins in 2023 would have given you appr. 100% RoI.

Just saying.
