Episode 8 was finished filming and apparently she was supposed to appear in Episode 9. They did just use a CGI Peter Cushing in Rogue One. However they choose to do it, Leia/Fisher deserves a proper send off of some sort. Finding a way to do right by her in this film is probably going to be one of the hardest and most criticized (positively, negatively and ethically) things a writer(s) has ever had to face for a character by a fan base.
