I'm kind of curious about this, it seems as if the game is setup into 9 zone on defense (left, center, right * line of scrimmage, short and long). Obviously, in some cases you've got more than one player in a zone (for example, if you're playing either a 4 d-linemen or 4 linebackers), you probably have 2 players in the middle zone.
So if you have two players in a zone, when the play progresses to that zone, do you get twice the chance to make the tackle? Or does the game engine simply select one of the players to compare to the blocker/ball carrier etc.?
In one case, you might want to stuff you critical zones with multiple tacklers. In the second case, maybe you want to just have your best player.

Merc has said this in the past.
Therefore, I am going to wait for his response.

Best player seems to win the day, imo. Check out my friendly from todays friendly group for an example. Not a single missed tackle or tackle for either FS, same thing occurred in the SteelerSal Pstimpel matchup. both FS and SS were in the same zone. and SS made every tackle and tackle attempt. Pass coverage is such an unknown that we have no idea who covered whom and it could be entirely possible that the more players you play in a given zone the more you increase the holes in your defense

Same thing between me and Kyoshuke. No FS tackles, quite a few by the SS.

I expect the answer is "we don't know" but do we know what players are in which zone? Or which players would be in which zone?
From the offensive POV, if Zone 1 was the short to the left, 2 short middle, 3 short right, 4 medium left etc... (where the right CB would be in zone 1). Then would it be...
DT/DE = Zone 2
MLB = Zone 5
OLB = Zone 4 & 6 (or would they be zone 5 as well?)
CB = Zone 1 and 3
S = Zone 8
Then maybe if it is a run to the left, the linebackers would move to that zone?
