if either of you can convert to 3-3-5 I think that will improve the overall defense. anything over 2 guys in a zone is a waste, and creates holes in your defense.

How big are these "zones" you refer to?

I have a question also. What are the advantages of 3-3-5 vs a standard 3-4? Is it simply better pass coverage versus slightly weaker run stopping or is it just a better overall scheme? I've actually considered going with a 4-2-5 or 5-1-5 to test them out, but I don't quite have the personnel yet. Plus, my 3-4 has done well against human teams so far giving up just 13 total points in 2 games since switching from the 4-3 (17 points against in 1 game against a human).

i'd say it depends on your defensive players' speeds

play your best players. different defenses work well if you have the right players. look at texas christian university (the horn frogs) they ran a 4-2-5 and held oklahoma to their lowest point total of the regular season. while the 4-2-5 is unorthodox, if you have the right players it will work.

just get good players and form your defense around them.

Thanks rivertommy and buckeye. That's part of how I settled on the 3-4 defense. I was playing a LB on the DL, but he wasn't really performing there. I moved him back to LB and he was much better, but I didn't have a guy that would perform at DT. I'm not a big fan of the 3-4 in real football, though there are plenty of top flight guys that make it work, but just like when playing xbox360 or PS3, you run what works best for the game.

sorry I haven't answered this in a timely fashion, it looks in this game like there are three vertical zones and up to 5 lateral zones.

zone size could be dependable on speed.

the way I see it, there are three progressions. dl to lb to sf when running

if you make it past the defender you face in that zone you automatically move to the next zone.

if the offensive player fails the check the speed variables come into play then they will compare off speed vs def speed (as well as possibly str?) to determine the number of yards.
