OMG, simmed again. 2 games in a row. At least we went down fighting.

Sums up our WC. Another game where we win most of the main stats but are thwarted last minute. Interceptions were annoying though, and the low scoring affair may indicate the darkwing (which we haven't used all cycle) may not have been the way to go or if so, perhaps not with Ethan. Thought I'd try it out though, and I ended up guessing correctly in terms of sides and got him the weaker CB of the two they field. His stamina had gone up slightly, but his main skills have all gone up so I hoped he'd deliver given his general performances in my open game plans. Funnily enough, Austria won by only 6 points again (this time in Overtime) despite AGAIN losing most of the key stats. Not that it really mattered that game, but they've got a seriously lucky star over their head this cycle. Good luck in the next stages to them and the UK
Oh well, running out of time on the 5 yard line, and being beaten with 14 seconds to go by a point by the strongest list there is isn't too shabby. Pity we couldn't quite match our results last cycle, even though they both kinda ended the same hahha...
Someone else's turn next cycle. I will be away, and while I could still probably do the job I think it's just the right time. Furthermore, a couple of coaches here contribute to the Australian NT a lot more than I do in terms of players (infinitely more actually, given I selected none of my players - maybe next cycle!) so if anything, they should definitely apply themselves. Maybe personalised training mixed with the tactical nous I know they have can give us the edge to go that bit further. It's been a successful two cycles I think, given it used to be a bit of an achievement to even reach the WC finals (and this year with no easy qualification games!). Part of that is definitely due to squad improvement (plenty of new inclusions the last two/three cycles + incumbents also improving) but there is still HEAPS of potential in the squad left. Our LB core in particular should hopefully be ridiculous come next cycle (their club training permitting), 5* safety coming through being trained very well by his club (though he didn't play this cycle), and our QB/WR core is still elite. The whole team really, I mean our former #1 field CB is now a special teamer, even when we choose to field four CBs. That plus our rise from rank 22 to 18 says something. Good luck to whoever gets the job next cycle!
EDIT: I'll be passing on my long list of players to look at to whoever gets the job. I'll exclude the ones I have checked out and probably won't make the squad, but there are a few out there (some more well known than others) that could definitely be NT level at least eventually anyway.

I have been very impressed by how Australia has improved in recent seasons. Being ranked just outside the top 16 is horrible for group seeding, but performances like these will ensure this does not remain the case for much longer.

australia is eaily a top 12, maybe top 8 team. but due to the ranking system being so flawed. we'll always rank low. so we'll always be knocking off top teams like we have in recent cycles.

Both the teams we nearly topped came 1st and 3rd. So shows were we stand against the top 8 teams.

Fixed. Well, except for the whole score thing I guess.
Ah well. It's a bit like last year in that we wade through strong competition (including a win over finalists Denmark) but just fall short. Good luck to whoever takes the job next cycle. Hopefully the players we have that can grow do grow.

haha nice edit.
Looks like our ranking aint going nowhere.
Czech rep is still 245 ahead of us. Even though they didn't qualify, they were in a 5 team group. so only 1 less game than us played. We got closer by 13 points.
Switzerland are 920 ahead of us. They didn't qualify, but we only gained 95 on them.
Austria, didn't even look at them since they played the finals and would've added alot more points than us. Plus were in a 5 team qualifying group. So 2 extra games there.
Shakes head when thinking we were top 8 last cycle, top 12 this cycle, and still rank 18th overall.
And soon were are gonna have Hungary crawling up our bums, they way they are performing.
