Nah, this specifically isn't a particularly new idea. Our NT in particular has been hit mid-WC cycle by retirement from free agency before. While NT players get two shots at free agency, some can still fall through the cracks. Part of the duty of NT managing I guess (particularly with a smaller talent pool, because who else is going to make a superstar kicker with a salary like that?!)

Rocky is a bit different given he uses it for club level stuff (and is a bit more proactive at it I might add). Also, he doesn't just dabble in NT players (who are more flexible to deal with in this instance) so either he fire/retires a bunch of guys or has to try sell them on before the economical turnover. If selling, he's got to plan ahead and start listing before his friendly (or even league game) is over, otherwise he'll still have the player on his list come Wednesday turnover.

I'm purely doing it to keep the player active until he potentially finds a new home, and can just fire him any old time before Wednesday 04:00. Even if he doesn't find a new home it'll be 100 weeks or so (almost two whole years!) of buying him for $1000 and firing him before I reach a point equal to paying one week of his salary. Doesn't really matter if he goes to an active team or not given he's pretty much as good as he'll ever get (so is still well served by a future bot team), but I may step in if a new team who don't realise what his salary is try and buy him (mrcasado style!)



EDIT: Speaking of mrcasado, he's gone and put a bid on the kicker in question anyway. Hahaha, what a coincidence! Happy to let him go to a team like that.
