Does anyone have a suggestion on how much cash an owner should try to keep in their account? Should it be weekly expenses X 10 or some formula such as that?

I think I am in great shape with low expenses and 5 million in the bank. I am working on expanding my stadium but know that if I get promoted to division III next year I am going to need to start investing more in player salaries.

Build up a nice war-chest while you're training your players in the lower divisions. You may need it when their wages overtake your earnings.

Use a spreadsheet and calculate how much money you will be spending each week in wages and maintenance. Then add your predicted earnings and see if you week by week have enough to survive.

You find if you build your stadium before your roster. You'll not need to worry about it. You'll always be making a profit every season.

I've made anywhere from $3.5M and up to $20M profit in all my seasons.

I have built my stadium up to 22,200 focusing on the premium seating and have a fully built fan shop. Right now I am in division 4 and tied for first place in record but I have the advantage in point differential. I probably am in good shape to be promoted. I was going to spend the rest of this season focusing on building my stadium but am questioning how big I should go versus holding money in my bank account. It would seem like a good choice to add to seating because I have been still selling out my home games.

I guess I was thinking as teams mature there may have been thoughts on how many weeks of cash on hand teams try to carry when determining how big a payroll they wanted to budget.

You can easily build your stadium up to 50k. You should be ensured at least that in attendance if you do 'ok' in III or if you want to make tons of money - wait a season in IV and build up to 65k. 9 sold out games plus a decent Cup should give you at least 7 million in the bank in one season.

If you want to compare, I got 5 million in the bank now and have a projected wealth of 7-8 million once the season is over. I started the season with 4 million in the bank and am running a tight ship IMHO. A bad cup or bad weather on home games can knock me out.

I expect my expenses for next season to be around 24 million (based on predicted skills - wages) and can without including the Cup earnings make roughly 23 million in the league based on 80% attendance. Each Cup round is worth roughly 1 million, so I should be good, but I don't think any IRL bank would applaud the budget.

Hope you can relate this to your team.

If looking at it like that. Then you only need 3 weeks payroll on hand. Anything else above that is a bonus. Helps get past 2 away games and the offseason.

I've got $26m or so on hand. I'm planning on bumping wages and going on a charge a some point to try and snag some honours!

I wish I would have taken this approach when I first started. Instead, I trained up my players as high as they could go, while just barely managing to turn a profit each season. Back then, it was a lot more tempting to put the needs of the roster before the stadium, since there were far fewer competitive teams.

But now, it's caught up with me, and I had no choice but to rebuild. Sure, the BLACK STARS had a good run, but it's over now. And it will probably be years before we're back on top.

So, basically, if I had to give any advice to anyone just starting out: focus on a stadium first, while compiling a group of young/cheap players with a lot of upside. Once you get between 30 - 40 millions in the bank, then you'll really be setup to do some serious damage, without having to worry about your future.
