Hi guys

Since I am new to this game and don't have any match experience, I was wondering which game orders/options on my offensive or defensive team are effective.

I read that this game is more about passing then running the football.

The standard game options are: Run 1st 80%, Run 2nd 60%, Run 3rd 30% and on 4th down no order. Defense options are: 1st pass, 2nd pass, 3rd rush, 4th rush.

From what I read, I would have done the opposite on Offense. Defense looks okay to me. And I have no Idea what I should do on 4th down. How are the kickers in this game? Are they scoring field goals from 40 yards out? Does it depend on his Rating or on his kicking skills?

I hope you can help me with your experiences from the game.

Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the game. Hope you enjoy it. At the moment this game is more pass oriented, but not until you get promoted and play regularly against better teams. The general rule of thumb is to run against bot teams (90% across the board), and pass against human teams, but the passing game takes a bit of time to be effective. You will need to experiment against the teams you are up against to see how much emphasis you put on running and passing. Defensive options depend on what your opponent usually does. Against bot teams you would normally set for ... rush, rush, pass, rush. Against human teams, if they run all the time, set it against rush. If they pass all the time, set it against pass. You are right with the kickers. They won't make 40 yard FGs to start with. It depends on their rating (BPOS), and skills.
Try a few different styles and see how you get on. Once you've worked out who's playing at what position, stick to it so that they're BPOS increases (a half star per 10 games), until they max. Remember, the higher a plyers talent, the higher their BPOS and skills can go.

To put things into perspective, at the elite end of the game, running seems to be virtually non-existent.

In the UK v Portugal match which took place earlier today, there was only one rushing attempt in the entire game! [by the Portugese full-back, for 0 yards].

It's also interesting to note that even at the elite level of the game, 40 yd plus field goals are few and far between [in the 2nd quarter, Portugal's kicker missed a 41 yard field goal].

Saying that, my team play in the 5th tier and I don't think my kicker has missed anything under 40 yards... yet.

Whether or not running at the top level is completely useless IMO is debatable. It's just that passing gives more chunk plays, more chances for scores, harder to defend against generally speaking. Wonder if any top-tier players have ever tried going to an all-run attack just once to try and screw over a totally pass-set defense?

If you are just starting the game. Do with the default orders every game you play. Just change the FG setting to 40 years on 4th down.

Once you see your passes being completed regularly, ie 80% or better, then increase your passing. As a beginner, you'll be lucky to make 10% of you passes, hence why running is better at beginner levels.

yes even NT teams did (or did they just talk about trying?)
As far as TD teams are concerned peter and mercutioh and/or some other teams played friendlies with their first string teams running the ball.

unless ur opponent in the top div has a leaky DL, running the ball gives you -3yards and a pound of dust

Now I m not saying you should not try- FC Kazimierz played a balanced offense initially and were successful till they hit div 2
And i think Kazimierz said his v2 was going to be all-pass attack but I havent checked in on his team in a while.

tried it with a setup mistake on a cup semi a couple of seasons ago, 100% run. it doesnt work and doesnt make enough big plays to compete with a full pass team.
