Ok, so I sorted my players by their stats, set up my formations, and seem to be doing not as well as I had hoped. Obviously, vs. bots I am having no issues, but against humans, well, the stats are not pretty. Hence, this posting.

Background: Currently I use a single set back, 2 TE, and 2 WR for offense. Passing percentages are in the toilet, hovering around 20-25%. Defensively, I use a 3-4, and around the 3rd quarter the defense seems to dissolve, even vs bots(seem to always give up some points in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Questions:
1) I am in division V. Is a running game a feasible offense for the lower divisions?
2) Most of the points given up have been on long passes. Would it be feasible and practical to go to a dime or quarter defense?
3) If I go to the dime or quarter, is the defense still capable of shutting down (or at least limiting) an opponents running game?
4) Is a 33 Stack defense a viable alternative?

Thanks in advance.

Early on, running game can work. Work toward implementing a passing game, but realize that without some trained players at qb, wr and te, pass percentages in the 20's is not unusual. When teams are young, their low stamina will effect the 2nd halves of games substantially.

I'm not sure changing your defense will do much in the beginning. Just try to put your players in the best positions and gain bpos. That will do the most toward improving your team. Solid DE's do the most to stop an opponent from passing, as they can provide the most pressure to the opposing QB.

Background: Currently I use a single set back, 2 TE, and 2 WR for offense. Passing percentages are in the toilet, hovering around 20-25%. Again very normal for a new team, it is easier to run than to pass when all your player's main skills are under 5

Defensively, I use a 3-4, and around the 3rd quarter the defense seems to dissolve, even vs bots(seem to always give up some points in the 3rd and 4th quarters.Again normal, bet all you players have stamina under 5 right?

Questions:
1) I am in division V. Is a running game a feasible offense for the lower divisions?Running is all you should be doing as a new team, stay to the basics and go with the default option, 1st 80%, 2nd 60% and 3rd 40% run. Once your receivers start making catches regularly, then reduce the amount of running.
2) Most of the points given up have been on long passes. Would it be feasible and practical to go to a dime or quarter defense?Nope.
3) If I go to the dime or quarter, is the defense still capable of shutting down (or at least limiting) an opponents running game?More DBs = harder to stop run.
4) Is a 33 Stack defense a viable alternative? Not as a new team against the run.

Thanks in advance.

Personally, I think as a new team, you need to go back to the basics. Run 2x RBs and 3x receivers. Use a 4-3 defense. I think this is where you have come undone staying away from the basics.

On a note about your roster, fire the 32 year old player now. He will never get any better the he is now.

And any player 26 and older, you need to look at replacing asap, as they fail to again good training point from 28 or older with younger players.

Get your physicals, ie speed and strength trained up also.

Yeah, working on getting rid of the old folks on the team. His stats were just a great deal better than most of the younger players.

Considering what I have read and been told, I have made some changes now. I only have two potential recievers that have a prayer at making a catch, and so I set up a Power I to make use of the several decent ball carriers I do have. Defense is just going to have to wait a while until players fit better I reckon. As for adding in other recievers, that will have to wait a bit as well I think, no hands in this club really.

On the training front, I have not trained anything else other than physicals, no point going broke on some guy with good skills and no body.

Bingo! Without facilities and great revenues, training physicals is the way to go. Get rid of aging players as they are a waste for you in training with so little points to begin with. Get your players into the best possible positions and start getting them some bpos. Train your physicals, so you can determine who to keep and who to axe or sell. You can easily replace players with decent youth pulls or cheap transfers (less than 5k) from the market. Once you get revenues rolling, vips and execs built, you can build some of the facilities that will make training skills much more successful

I have two lists on my tower. One is all players 26+, the other is all players less than 3 stars talen. Those are the axe first lists. My youth pulls so far are ok, 3 and 4 stars mostly, they are already in the line up. But at one per week, it will take all season to weed out the old farts. As for the transfer market, I am avoiding that for a while yet.

Don't go crazy on the transfer market, but I was often able to pick up some 3.5-star and higher talent for only $1000. I would keep your financial focus on building VIP and Executive seats, but you may want to spend a little cash pulling in players to replace the old guys and low-talent guys.

I'll keep that in mind. Most of my money is going to seat for the foreseeable future it looks like, but if I find a deal, well, I may have to jump on it.

After a few seasons, talent obviously becomes important. But right now I'd be keeping any player with decent speed and strength even if talent was low. Even a 1.5 star talent can get to a bpos of 3.5 star and since skills aren't an issue, speed and strength are all important at this stage.

Good point there, I didn't think of that. Being the overly analytical person I am, I decided to focus on replacing the old timers first, so I figure I will still get a season or three out of the lower talent guys that have decent stats. That being said, I will deffinately keep what you said in mind.
