Hello everybody. I am just starting out and was looking at building up my new team a little bit before the next season. I was curious if anybody has any suggestions as to how much they would be willing to spend on average for new players?

I guess I could word it this way...if you have 0 players on your team, how much on average would you spend per player?

I am looking at around 4-8k per player, but not sure if I will murder my income for a brand new team.

Welcome to GI.

The best thing you can do right now is work on generating income. This means get your sponsors set up and start building on your stadium. Build VIP seats first. When you have all those built, then build Exec seats. Once you have VIP and Exec seats finished, you'll have a good amount of income coming in that you can start making more decisions on what else to get, coaches, players, facilities, etc. If you don't build a good base income first, you'll make your early struggles last longer.

With that said, does this mean you can't buy players at all. I don't see anything wrong with trying to get a few new players now, but you need to be very careful. Don't spend more than $10k/ week on the transfer list. When you bid on a player, double check the player's salary before bidding. Make sure their salary is below $5k. As you get your VIP seats built, you could probably allow up to $10K salary. But don't get too many like this. Primary thing to look for in new players at this time is talent, intelligence, & consistency. Speed and strength are important too, but at least they are trainable.

This is a slow paced game. You will win games against bots fairly easily, and you might even win your league the first season, depending on the number of human owned teams in it, but don't expect to cruise up to the higher divisions or go far in the regional cup right away. It's possible to move up the division ranks quickly, but most teams that do this, do so by the seat of their pants and either fight a continue struggle with finances, or go bankrupt.

Also, once you do get all the VIP and Exec seats finished, don't be in a hurry to build a bunch of regular seats. Remember, it takes about 20k reg seats to help offset the costs associated (maintenance and reduced average ticket income) and improve your profit margin, as regular seats actually drive down your AVERAGE ticket price. This AVERAGE, is of course, the method used to determine ticket income each game.

You don't want wages over $5K when you are a brand new team. But best to spend you starting $250K on VIP seats first.

There is a sticky topic in this Rookies forum called "Spilling the beans" ... it's a well-written guide that gives info/tips about starting off and about the first few years in GI .... it's an interesting and informative read, I'd highly recommend it.
