As I try to look forward a season or two... what's a good skill level for a Punter and a placekicker for Division IV?

IMO, 9-13 depending on the competition within your respective league, any less and you'll be losing the field position game versus your opponent..

My knowledge says that a kicker with 19/20 in kickinig is only adding an extra 5-10 yards on the kick itself... So would you be wanting to use 50-75k more a week on a kicker, then train him to 18+, but my kickers will never (in this engine) go above 12...

Field position is important, but rather get some speedy gunners and stcb's that can tackle. Or just rule out special teams and focus on offense / defence.

a 19/20 skill kicker would be 84-102K wages.
and a 13 skill kicker is only 22K wages.
nothing close to 50-75K wages as you said.

personally i'd aim for 13 skill. it is 40 yards punts and can make 40 yard FGs all day. but as a new team, i'd just train kicking and punting, it will take a very long time without coaches or training hall. so don't worry about your kickers/punters wages for now.

Not that we need to become enemies for some number crunching.... but my intent was to state the difference between a 22k skill 13 kicker and a 19/20 skill kicker... being in the range of 50-75k a week.

But I agree with you. 13 is a good number and any new team should train kicking to that number unless the kicker could be used for something else (if he has a 6'9" frame and weighs 360 pounds...

Get a kicker as close to 13 as possible, so you don't have to pay to much in wages.

Before we get to excited aboot kickers... let's see how much we pay them per FG...

I made some simple calculations and we are paying something like 150.000 per field goal. My kicker has kicked one field goal... ONE... one!

And thankfully, I am only paying him 4k a week... think about the money I had been wasting if I had been paying him something like 22.000 a week.. It would be close to a million for a field goal! (I have had him for 3 seasons)

So 13 is fine if you are going to play in a league where the matches _could_ be close, but in shoot out leagues kickers are a waste of good money. Find your dusch-bag player with modest kicking skills and use him until you think you need a good kicker and then go out and get that kicker on the transfer market. (Train fitness on the duschbag... he might end up decent in another position).

Hi mate, having been in your situation, I can tell you that it's my intention to keep my kicker at the 10/10 he is currently. I'm happy that his punting distance is greater than my rivals, and that he will score a FG when I need him too (I go for <35 yards). Salary is around 10k, and that's all I'm willing to spend.

Also interesting to keep in mind is what player to train as a K. I picked a player that physically capped too low for any other position, but had high consistency (one of the only things that affect his performance). It may also be worth considering that height may be a factor next season. Taller is better for a kicker I hear.
