I've been told that it will indicate that a player intends to retire in the coaches comments on the player profile, but I have never noticed that. I've only had one player retire, so it may be true

I've seen it several times, although I may have only seen it with my supporter account. It says something like "Player plans to retire at the end of this season."

It shows whether or not you have a supporter account. I've seen it several times, both on my team and on others.

To the original poster, there's no set situation to determine when a player retires to my knowledge. I've seen players at several ages when they decide to retire. I think 28 would be the earliest age they could decide since this is when players start to lose training points, but I don't know for certain.

I'm pretty sure they start training slower at 28, but start deciding to quit at 30.

I would concur

and you get a season warning when they do plan to retire, listed in the coaches comments..

Thanks for the confirmation, that's what I thought and 30 would be the earliest you should see that notice, since they start declining in fitness every season after that one
