if you or someone who actually wants the job and is gonna put the time in and be involved in the forums then i wont even apply but i want us tobe competative and il make sure we have the best team possible to win as il put the time in to find the players, i just dont want to leave it and find i have to pick between 3 low division teams wth 10 forum posts between them

I agree as much as i like to see others get a go, i also want us to be flying high. I dont think some who apply realise how demanding it is taking the post.

p.s i wont be applying still dont want the job ever, but will always help in anyway i can. might even have more of my team in the squad this season!!

Interesting one this - I found it a good time commitment to have to make, but enjoyed it immensely.

Don't think we did too bad in the end - made the last 8 last time, then admittedly got wiped: one of the reasons I think was that I couldn't create a team how I wanted to in the end, in the image of my Venice Dolphins (I) team that topped the Atlantic rankings at one point. Don't think being a lower division coach and/or lack of great numbers of forum posts had any impact myself, just my star Venice team had lots of players from around the world who I just couldn't find a UK equivalent of, even after lots of hunting and PMs to coaches all over the place.

Loads of coaches were so helpful to me in getting a team together (truly you again!), but I think it will be a big challenge for the next coach as a few of the countries who did better than us now have outstanding strength in depth coached up across all 22 main starters that will take some beating.....

Lets hope the next coach can work more magic than me!

ps: I had taken a div 5 team up to div 3 just before became UK coach, topping my div 3 at the time. I beat lots of teams in cup runs who were many divisions above me over my previous time in the game and shocked at their defeats, so just because I wasn't a div 1 or 2 team (who in some cases joined the game much earlier and so had a much better starting point) I think demonstrates a lower div coach shouldn't necessarily be ignored. Just depends on what you've managed to achieve with the roster you've had, that's all (if that makes any sense?)

afooty, you did a good job and i guess the national manager molding the team to mirror their winning league team is understandable in some points if not possibly wrong. teams are learning that high stating primaries isnt necessarily the best and a well rounded player can produce a better game.

I think the game and the teams in the game are a lot tougher and different from the games birth and with that a lot of young teams have climed fast with great success, but suddenly died from overstretching. there are a lot of good managers around in all divisions and because someone is in Div V wouldn't restrict their chances of national coach in my book its more about experience within the game.

You make a really really good point Odball - I'm absolutely sure my approach was wrong in the end as it didn't get us to the final rounds of the Cup!

I just could never strike the right balance between high-rated guys in just a few skills, and more all-round balanced guys with good ratings across the board: tried to go one way, then the other, then mix and match, but couldn't get the team to blend with consistency - particularly on defense, where we got torched a few times against the top teams.......

That put too much pressure on QB McMillan to perform top-notch all the time, and when he threw 5 ints in our Last 8 match, that was it. No way to overcome that without the defense sorted out and fully working on the personnel front.
