From what I read it looks like I ll have to assign players to the right positions.
So I went about setting positions and apparently the players did not care about winning matches before I came along. In most teams players would sit out, even let others play both ways to win. Players have been playing out of the position best for them and some of them for about 30 weeks.
I mean does my Ol have a death wish? With strength 6/20 he wants to be an OL - he would have a better chance surving a bear mauling than 3 downs against a DL.

Similarly everyone seems to be out of position. So will they take 30 weeks before I can see them in the right position? Will I be able to see their progress in rating- Lets say,"how good of a DE, the guy I asked to be a DE is?"
Can I somehow assign the position "pile-on" to my OL?

I fired every player who said he was going to retire at the end of the season. They can go enjoy with their kids and grandkids right now-why wait till next season. I hope that was the right thing to do financially

From what I read 4 * talent guys less than 21years of age will not get me much money.
Should I leave them on my team or should I try to sell them?

From what I read I should wait till the speed and strength cap before determining position. But I am just starting out. What should I assign positions based on? (I assigned them based on current skill levels.)

I understand no team can be built overnight but with 1 match per week and 18 matches per season, it will take m about 5 months for the season to end. My division 'N. America, Div. V.2' has just 1 other human team.
From what I read a match against a bot team should be won with ease. So how do I keep me interested enough not to let my team go bot?

Shalom

Well, if you get beaten by a bot, you have to work on your game..So there is a lot of thinking and sorting out your team to do. So i cant see how you could lose interest at the moment. The games about a bit of patience as well, so its long term decisions now! Try to read all the info from begginers sections.

The players, position ratings, and weeks on team are all randomly assigned when you first get your team. Yes, fire all retiring players, they won't help you in the long run and with only 1 human, you shouldn't need them this season anyway.
Base current positioning of players by current stats. That's the best you can do for the moment. As players cap in speed and strength, which could take a long while, move them to positions better suited to the caps. You can see the progress of the players at their new position by hovering your cursor over the red question mark by rating. This shows the rating of the player at each position. My research shows that the player will gain .5 star of rating for every 10 games played at the position. The first .5 star may happen sooner.
At this point, players with 3.5 star talent and higher are good long term players for you. Eventually, you'll want to replace 3.5 and 4 star talent players with 4.5 and 5 star talent, but that's a long term goal as the cost to attain this now would be prohibitive. Keep enough players regardless of talent to field a full starting lineup and a couple of backups. If you want to save on money, you can fire the extras that have 3 star or less of talent. You will likely need a few to field your squad for a while.
3.5 star talent players under 21 yr olds can bring in good money. The key is to have the sell time end when lots of managers are on and make sure to advertise the player in the 'Ads' section. Disclosing talent level is optional, but you tend to get more activity if you do, provided the player is 3.5 star or higher.
The season lasts about 4.5 months. Yes, it's long and can get tedious. As stated above, this is a game of patience. You have short term goals of beating bots (which should be pretty easy), and beating the one human in your league (which could be more difficult depending on how much of a head start he has on you). You also have long term goals that can take months, even years to accomplish.
