Update - How am I doing?

In my 10 days as a grid-iron manager, I have accomplished quiet a bit, and learned a whole lot. I'm now asking for the advice of the veterans to see what steps I should take to further continue to development of my team.

Something you should know:
I'm very far out of contention to promote, not that I would want to. In fact, I'm locked in as the team's last place team. I believe this doesn't really matter because of the fact that Asia only has three levels of divisions, and I can't be demoted any further.

What I've done training wise:
I completely re-ordered the depth chart that I have. Nearly no one is playing their natural positions. I had an earlier thread about this, and decided that this was fine. I was originally planning on training the players in the new positions I had them, however because of the advice of other I've decided to just train fitness in all players. Don't worry, the way in which I re-ordered my depth chart was orthodox, I took the skills that I feel are important in each position and used simple forumlas to determine what position is best for what player.

Stadium building:
As most of you know, with my stadium I start out with 1,000 seats. I had heard that VIP seats were good investments, so a few days ago I decided it would be wise to build 100-200 VIP seats. I contemplated whether to put it on the same side of my original seats, or on the other side. I was thinking from a realistic standpoint of course. Well, I decided to put them on the SAME SIDE, a decision that came back to haunt me. I didn't realize that the whole section is then considered "under construction". Sigh. My capacity is now zero, but will be 1150 with 150 VIP seats come November 22.

What I've done in my games:
My first game, I was brand new into the game, having just joined 5 days before. I decided it might be smart to just play the players in their natural positions. I was playing a bot team, so of course all went well. I ended up winning 28-0, scoring a touchdown in every quarter.

I then played a friendly on Monday against a team obviously a lot better than me, hoping I could maybe give them a game. Saturday night is when I did my depth chart re-ordering, so I was excited to see the results I would get. I logged on Tuesday morning to discover a 42-0 loss, in which I got 25 total yards. I knew I shouldn't be surprised, but I started second guessing myself with the depth chart re-ordering. That's when I posted the forum asking whether it was a good thing to reorder everything. I got amazing responses, and decided that I wil keep my players at the positions I gave them, but only train fitness.

Now I'm waiting for Saturday, and I started thinking about the future of the team. What should my next steps be? I'm yet to invest in any players, or sell anyone for that matter. Should I make money before investing in other players around the world? After my stadium is fixed and income starts coming back in, should I build more? Or just wait it out and get more money?

Should I train my players in there postion, or get rid of them later on?

Thanks to anyone that took the time to read this, It's a super long post, and I'm hoping there's someone that will take the time to help me out. I'm an eager player, and I can learn easy!

You're in a great position to build in a poor division.

Personally, I'd be tempted to replace the players that are getting older, especially the 30+ year olds.

Scour the transfer market for cheap, young (£10k or less, 18 year old or less) 4* talent plus players with good base physicals to replace them as your current players won't be worth training - read the FAQ if you are not sure why.

Other than that, keep pouring your cash into the stadium - you are not far away from end of season prize money to help you!

Oh, and always make sure you get a decent friendly - if you want one at my ground a week on Monday, you're welcome as mine is close to optimum size for income.

If you want to get a few players, I don't think it would hurt as long as you stick with what Maylie said, cheap and young. Remember to look at their salary before buying. A $1000, 4*, 18 yr old does you no good if you have to pay him $50,000/wk.
I also don't think you'd be hurt any if you just stuck with what you have until the end of the season, and use all money you get to upgrade stadium. There's going to be a lot of players for sale after the wage increase. While you probably won't have money or income to handle those players, the influx of players on the market at this time will often leave undeveloped but decent talent players available for very cheap. You will want to replace those older players, and fill your roster with young 3.5* or better talent, but in my opinion, you have at least until the end of season 10 to do this. If you spend your first several weeks focusing primarily on building up stadium, getting the players will be a lot easier.
The key to being successful in this game is patience. It's especially hard to be patient early on, but that's also the time when it's most critical.

Thank for the great advice everyone.

I will continue building onto my stadium, plus look into buying a player under 18 with 4+ talent.

Any more advice?

most player take 3 seasons to really be anything useful, i'd personally sell/fire/replace any player older than 24.

If you want to improve your offense while not being in line for promotion - go run heavy. Use 2 or 3 seasons to get a good QB and TE/WR that you can develope.

Otherwise - as said by the others - build VIP seats. You can build three times without hurting your attendence (the three sides not built on yet) and then look for places in theschedule when you have 2 weeks with away games. Build then and build on all four sides since you do not pay maintenance on stands under construction.

Onlt train physical skills and monitor for when they hit the cap. Use the seasons to move players (as you are doing).

And keep popsting in the forums. That is the best way to get advice.

Alright, I've been around grid-iron and I've started to make some great progress.

I've gotten involved on the forums (I hear that's big! :crazy, been building onto my stadium (On December 13th I will have 600 VIP seats, and 1500 regular seats total), and I've taken the next step -- buying my first player!

It's not final yet, but I've placed a bid on a teenage player who fits my requirements for a WR. His physicals to become a WR (Catching, Agility, Stamina) aren't very high, but he has great Speed, Strength, Consistency.

I'm not sure if I should be telling you this before it's final, but I did! I looked through the QBs, but I didn't find any reasonably priced QBs with the skill set I need. WR was my second thing on the list to buy, but I decided to buy a young one that I can train and develop.

Once I'm finished building all my VIP seats, I'll be purchase a fitness coach and a fitness center. I hear this is the best thing to do.

Excited for the game this season! Any more advice?

Ignore main stats for now. Choose the players you want for each position, and play them consistently. Train physicals (str/spd) until they cap. Maxing out BPOS with strong physicals will leave you with reasonably good players that are cheap. Later, you can train the main skills (block/pass/etc). Train them to a maximum of 10 for now. Your QB should be tall, 3.5-talent or more, with high consistency. Once you have chosen the positions each player will start in, stick to it and be patient. It will take time. Don't do transfer market purchasing, at least not a lot. Some cheap 3.5-talent+ youths will no doubt be useful, but putting money into your seating will be more so.

I agree with the advice above and all I would add is that once you've maxed out the physicals, you should evenly train the skills rather than get one skill to 10 and then catch up with the other skills. It will save you a huge increase in wages too quickly. If you need a friendly at any time just let me know. I hope you continue to enjoy the game, it may not be that realistic in parts but I still enjoy it and don't mind supporting it for what little it costs per week.
