Well that`s not the way I`m thinking about it (although theres nothing wrong with that logic). I`m just thinking that theres always profit from the club shop, every week, and it doesnt matter if you have friendlies, if you`re playing home or away.

Stoo, what did you base those Shop Earnings on?

The highest it could possibly be? (Top division, lots of wins etc)

no it's a very rough estimate.
took it from basic earnings in the FAQ

Shop earnings/maintenance table
Type Cost Maintenance p/w Basic earnings
Basic shop $ 350,000 $ 3,000 $ 7,500
Upgrade 1 $ 50,000 $ 5,000 $ 12,500
Upgrade 2 $ 50,000 $ 7,000 $ 17,500
Upgrade 3 $ 50,000 $ 9,000 $ 22,500
Upgrade 4 $ 50,000 $ 11,000 $ 27,500

Obviously it goes up as per division, but even with the % rise, it still doesn't look as if they match up too well

At the absolute maximum (top player of top division), call it +220%(yes very rough estimate i know as i presume interest would be compound, also is there 10 divisions?)
comes out around 77000 per week
but of course this is only applied to one person in the entire game..

I upgraded the shop for several reasons. The first is because I'm considering the offseason. There will likely be no games but the club shop "should" still be bringing in money in the offseason. I'll be earning money while others won't be.

As for the math. First off, I'm expecting to earn just over $42k a week every week from the shop. After taking off the $11k maintenance that's $31k a week. After I get promoted, that number will go up by $4k for being a division higher leaving my weekly earnings at $35k a week (keep in mind I'm expecting to always be near the top of my division). That brings the payoff day to the 16th week I have. If I do get money during the offseason, that gives me a time cushion that stadium expansion would not (whatever the length of the offseason is).

To summarize, building and upgrading a club shop does not appear to be a economical decision UNLESS you are near the offseason. At least, thats the assumption I'm operating under. NFL team club shops are open all year. Not to mention that if this game were accurate, we' have like at least 6 months of offseason (18+ weeks) in which case the shop would definitely payoff. I don't actually have any idea how long the offseason will be so I'm kinda going out on a limb.

I believe the offseason is going to be 2 weeks.

But, the idea of getting money for those 2 weeks while others don't is appealing. I'm still planning on building through the stadium for now, but that's an idea for me to keep in mind in the future.

that's a very good point actually.
hadn't considered the off season income benifits

..though at the end of the day, my financial management makes most of this conversation completely unecessary as i'm rarely ever gonna have 350000 to drop straight on a club shop...d'oh
