1) you can have your QB pass to the side where your best WR is lined up. if you let the QB decide, he just randomly passes to whatever reciever. so he might throw the ball to your e.g catching 2 guy, instead of the WR on the other side who has catching at 10.

its only a percentage so sometimes they might go in other directions and the pass/rush will go the same depending on that percentage too.

Run is viable at lower levels due to poor stats on QB&WRs but your aim should be the passing game in the long haul, unless the game engine is changed soon!.
